Took a chop at a pop out sig.

I know the text is ugly but I'm more concerned about those corners. That doesn't happen untill go to save it.
BTW the site that I use these on and visit most often has a sig file limit of 25KB so I had to save it as a GIF.

Render needs to blend in with the BG, right now, it looks as if you just slapped the render on and didn't do anything with it. The lighting is also incorrect, I suggest you fix it.
Text needs to be improved just a bit more (don't really have any suggestions for it, sorry) and BG probably needs more depth. Good try though :)

Better? I'm not too worried about the text right now. Also I've never taken any classes or lessons in art/design/graphics so I don't know how to add 'depth'

For depth.. Contrast/Levels/Curves adjusments layer work fine.. But for more detailed areas... You can try dodging or burning..
Try fixing the lighting on the render.. Not the BG.. The light is coming from behind the render.. So you should have an idea of where the light will fall..
I've had Photoshop for about two months, what technique would be best for changing lighting? I couldn't find any tuts on it.
Try filter -> render -> lighting effects..

Still a bit bright on the top of his head Buch. (But maybe it looks bad without it...) *shrugs*
