right now it is just REALLY boring. needs color, and something special to it

I'd stay away from the little-update-boxes+one-big-content-box style if I were you :)
not bad :), it could use some color, try replacing the 3 little boxes with 2 bigger ones. Or drop them as metal said.
And add some content to the template so you/we can judge it better
yeah you need to add content so we can see what it would look like as a product, and bland at the moment
