Well the trick to smudging is to smudge without making it look obvious you smudged.

Like rigth jow i can tell you merely duplicated your render and msudged it a tiny bit. The halo around her mouth gives it away. Duplicate it many times move it around and smugde. I like pato's smudge brushes and settigns but you can use what you like. Go from big brush to small too get more detail.

Depth in a smudge sig is really hard my suiggestion: don't try it? lol just blur a little and that'd be ur best bet.
