The only reason i am asking this is because i have gone from Photoshop CS3 to CS4, i havent used it much, but when i was using CS3 i just downloaded any old fonts and brushes, not really knowing which types are good and worth the downloading, and when i used CS3 i only used the same few brushes out of the hundreds i had got, same with the fonts. And yes i do know about deviant art before anybody posts saying look there they have lots. :D
Thanks

Go to deviantArt.com and search for the kind of brushes you're looking for (Grunge brushes, abstract brushes, smoke brushes, etc.). They will usually have a preview of the brushes so you can look at them before you download them.

I know however what are the most common types of brushes used? and which type give the best effects?

I dunno, I've found Grunge and Smoke brushes to be most effective for me, but I'll concede the obvious point that it all matters on what you're looking for. Photoshop's about experimentation, so experiment!
