clipping masks

can sum1 explain wot a clipping mask does please :S

Wrong place to post a thread but, if I made some text on one layer, put a c4d on another layer, clip it to the text, the c4d would only show up on the text, not on any other part.

Dave please stop spamming threads in anywhere that says something about the topic. This is a tutorial thread, for tutorials.

Clipping masks make a space where it deletes everything on that layer so that it can see everything below it.
