First thing you need to know is everyone will have their own opinions when it comes to cnc, which are based on skill, knowledge and personal taste generally speaking
Since you're new at this, make your canvass a bit smaller to begin with. The less room you have to fill right now the easier you might find it.
Try working on backgrounds a bit more. Basic stuff like filter>render>clouds and some simple brushing.
Render/stock placement is important, and so is resizing your picture. Hold shift when you resize a render or a stock so it doesn't look skewed.
Those lines you've got going don't fit. You want "flow" in your sig. For example, if your render or stock goes to the left, you want flow towards the left, and not in every direction.
Text is a thing of it's own. It's the hardest part of making a sig work. Papa has a really good text tutorial here. I can't find it at the moment, but it is here. I also posted some text basics here. http://www.gfxvoid.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24396
