its a little too monotone, and the background is a bit boring. and it took me like 3 minutes to figure out thats a sword (that is a sword right?) text needs work
blending is good, along with the texture, but its just lacking something...

Thanks for the quick response, it is indeed a sword:) I've been advised to use gradient maps to add color. Unfortunately I have not done that before, any tips? (iPod typing ftl)
maybe you could throw some channel mixers in there. i would always try and avoid using colorized hue/satch. tends to make things way to monotoned....
use gradient maps to enhance certain colors. dont rely on them to give you color. when you use them, use them on low opacity (0-25% generally) with different blending modes and build up the color profile you want to show through. do fine tuning with other adjustment layers, but only do a little bit for each one. cranking anything all the way up will be noticeable and looks bad.
use layer masks if you want color on some parts and not others. you dont have to apply the same gradient over the entire thing.
