it looks like you cut & pasted mario & the goomba's.... they are blurry and the rest of the image is real sharp?

I made a new document and then sized it 500%, so I can pixel them correctly.

Go to your preferences, and change your resizing algorithm. I can never remember the name of it, but one of them doesn't do any kind of corrections on resizing. And as far as pixel art goes, there's no point to making them a larger size than you're going to have them be. Just do them one pixel at a time on the size you're gonna have them be on your final product. Or if you simply have to do it at a larger size (which I would really advise against) resize it, then just re-pixel it. If you've got a base to work off, it should only take you like 5 minutes on something as small as mario. Also, your colors on him are too contrasty.

Not bad overall, though. You need to round out the green thing in the bg.
