Decayed Text Tutorial

This is my 1sst tut, be warned.

1) Make a new document any size (larger the better) And fill the background black.

2) Using a small sized font fill the document with words. (copy and past) And Be sure to “set the leading” so there is minimal space between lines of type.

3) Save document as Decay> Where ever you want. (This will be your displacement map)

4) Open new document any size (larger the better) and fill the background with black.

5) With a large sized font, type words. (I have found VERY large letters produce a smoother and more integrated effect).

6) Now select the Words you just typed and apply>FILTER> DISTORT> DISPLACEMENT> (click ok when asked about rasterizing)
Use default settings> 10 Horizontal, 10 Vertical, Stretch to fit, Repeat Edge Pixels.
AND CHOOSE DISPACEMENT MAP>DECAY.

Repeat, repeat, and repeat step (6) the displacement filter, and let her decay.

Well I hope that’s a good thing!? As far as I have seen, not many tuts are using the Displacement Map Filter. So I am just experimenting.

Does anyone know of any good tuts that use this filter. I have a feeling it can be a powerful filter, in the right hands.

pretty cool i like the idea behind it, most of the img editing i do is for forums, sigss and the like unfortunatly a effect like this requires nice big imgs which dont suit what im after but i am impressed none the less

I think most of the member here focus on small images. (and square ones?)
But Most of my work is intended for a very large medium. Sometimes effects
Are dependent on your document size (and shape).

But I guess if you used smaller letters for the “Decay” part, then you
could also use smaller letters for the “Let Her” part and the results
would be similar to large fonts.

i didnt get the last bit about how u got the ittle text into the big one
