it should be 2x2

If I made them 2x2, you couldn't tell that they were circles, and then I wouldn't be able to get the proper spacing I wanted.

I know what you mean, when I first started, I was using final colours, and I had to stop fast. I used random colours, IE blue, green red in place of the different shades, and when I had it done, I selected all of 1 colour, and changed it. It helps having little tricks like that.
