I could be horribly wrong, but I think there's a difference (similar to the difference between NC17 and R) with the AO and M ratings. I know that you can get a parent to get you an M rated game, but I think stores aren't supposed to sell AO games to minors regardless of if the parent okays it or not. Same goes for R and NC17. If a minor goes with their parent they can get into an R rated movie, but not an NC17.
Anyway, this Thompson guy must have smelled a quick buck in suing the industry.
