The bandwidth requirements for TS is pretty light weight. but it is dependant on each client. The client can choose which protocol and bandwidth utilisation, which will affect the bandwidth that the server must use.
Of course if the server is your own private server and you have a lot of people on board, then your available bandwidth will be consumed very quickly.
I think the average is around 10Kbps, so if you have a 1Mbps connection then you can host a lot of connections, just be aware that an individual could choose a lot larger bandwith.
well i'm on a network right now and i have an 8meg up/down
yes but is that sustainable? Normaly those types of rates are in bursts and also dependant on others sharing your local node. Have you tested what your sustainable bandwidth is?
But i you have 8meg up/down then you could even host your own game server.
Yes i get around 3 megs of that and it's on a near constant rate but doesn't really go to a low level which could jeopardise the speed and such. As the Team speak server would only be for gfx void i'm not sure there'd be a great interest at first and not too many people would be connected at once which would cause any problems such.
As for the game server many of the private servers run i think about a 3 meg and they get near 30,000 a day so i'm sure i'd be ok not to mention with the payments for items which would be sold ingame ( extra items which may not be obtainble in the game without extreme play hours ) i could upgrade my connection and the server.
you would charge for use of the ts server? in that case then you would need to purchase a commercial licence. its only free if you provide free usage.
Haha no, i meant the game .. it'd be free to play and everything but some people like to better themselves and pay to play like getting extra points on their skills and/or extra armour which may be difficult to obtain in normal game play. Believe me there are many people who will pay lots of money to get better than someone else. The teamspeak by all means be a free source for chatting i wouldn't dream of charging for something like that, it's be quite a stupid idea really.
you had better read the license carefuly. As your providing the service as part of a commercial venture, it may be deemed that you need to buy licenses. Not 100% clear about it, but then reading the license should make it clear.
