You can use the internet without USB, USB is just a shuttle for information from PNU programs to the computer.
yea but if she hooked her modem up using USB instead of ethernet then she is kidna outa luck with that isnt she?
Yeah, my internet needs a router thing. Or whatever they're called. I don't know >__> If I replace my motherboard what will happen to my computer?
EDIT: Also, I just lost a ton of diskspace on C.... it went from like 20 something percent free space to two percent. .... What is happening...... :(
Option One: Just put in your Restore Disk and set it to "Will Not Format HDD." That'll restore your System Files, but won't delete your files. But at the same time, won't get rid of the thing that's causing your problem. I say to do so because restoring back to a fresh point with your system files will make the system more stable, at least for a little bit, and enable you to do some troubleshooting.
Option Two: Use the built in System Restore feature if you're using Windows XP. It's a powerful tool that's often overlooked by the average computer user. Just estimate the time that the problem started happening, and choose a restore point before that.
If neither of those options work, I'm kinda stumped. I also think the reason you are losing disk space is because you have some kind of trojan spreading across your HD, causing it to take more and more space every time it duplicates. A lot of times Trojans can come packed in some kind of file, such a .cab, .rar, etc, with a lot of other unnecessary files to take up space.
If you can give me an estimated time that this started, I can give you some info on what may have affected your system.
Restore disk? Eh? ... o__o This started happening after I upgraded to SP2 which was... a week ish ago. Actually more. I'm using XP pro, soo... that should work. So if I restore, what will happen? It'll just go back to that point? Will I lose any files/settings or anything? And if I go to a restore point after it started happening, and it's still happening, I can go to one before that right? So if this started two weeks ago and I went to one one week ago and then I saw that didn't work I could go to the one that would be two weeks ago... right... >__>
I hope those work, thanks ^^
Yeah definitely. Here:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
"You can use System Restore to undo harmful changes to your computer and restore it's settings and performance. ...Any changes that System Restore makes to your computer are completely reversible."
That's a little exerpt from the System Restore page. Try it out and let me know how it works for you.
EDIT: You can also Create your own Restore Points at a time when everything is working fine, just to use as extra security.
How do I reverse the restore? XD Anyways, I'm going to ask my parents if they mind if I restore, then wait for my anime to finish downloading, and then restore. Thanks for your help, lets hope it works D:
Your computer will automatically restart after the restore has completed, and will pop up a screen saying that System Restore has restored the computer to a different date and time. And at that same screen, will ask you if you'd like to keep the changes you've made. Also, if something goes wrong, it'll let you know that the System Restore went wrong and will say "No changes have been made at this time." Let's hope that doesn't happen to you. =)
You can also uninstall Service Pack 2 if nothing else works, and see if that has a change.
So... if something goes wrong, it will say no changes have been made at this time, and then it'll go back to my recent crappy settings instead of my old settings? And when will this no changes have been made thing happen... since my computer just had the blue screen of death, will it happen after it restarts? And should I keep the window that asks if I'd like to keep the changes I've made open, or can I always go back there and press no? ^_^
EDIT: My parents say a restore won't help. Only reinstalling. And, I don't have any restore points, only one from today.... I can't go back on the restore calendar, theres only a point from today, and nothing else. ....
