if you want to practice and getting better, you have to try game designs, since they are pretty hard. then you have to learn some colorimetry, so you can make more pro sites.
is not that hard. just need patience, and make lots and lots of sites :P

To be truely honest, I really do think you have a good template. You just need to make content boxes, and lighten up the gray. It's a very usable layout. Good work..
