Yeah, say non-classical too. The best singers in the world are in that genre. They are too good for any other kind of music, kinda. Anybody who says different is stupid and doesn't know what he's talking about.

Mikael Åkerfeldt doesn't have much technique when he sings. He's not that good. Just fits well with the music. He's very good at growling though.
Haha, that Wintersun singer really sucked. He was awful, really. Honestly, I think I sing better. Yes I do take lessons and yes I have performed live. And I'm serious.
Hahahahaha, Blind Guardian.. They still have that lisping guy? Hahaha! :D Why don't you just mention Manowar or some shit like that aswell.
The only metal singer I can think of is James LaBrie from Dream Theater. He has one of the best voices in rock/metal. And that is because he is classicaly trained. And I'm counting Dream Theater as metal due to their later albums; especially the last one.
Sorry, I just thought it was a little funny that since you only listen to metal, you can't come up with anything else, just like the guitarist thread.. Sorry. :p
This 11 year old girl has "some" skill too: http://youtube.com/watch?v=9147zPzXfx0
I like Fran Mark - the drummer/singer of From Autumn to Ashes. I also like Damian Rice, and the singers from the band Stars...who's names I don't remember. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stars_(band)
Chris Cornell has a pretty good voice i could pick out of anywhere
You cannot actually say that Hansi has a bad voice, he's incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2a3EZLu7_8
he can do it live too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncqi7...elated&search=
And I do listen to other styles of music. I just listen to metal mostly because the amount of styles under that musical genre is so vast that you cant actually make a statement like "I like metal".
Take two "metal fans". Their taste in bands would probably be completely different.
Also in my opinion metal (when done well) can combine all sorts of talents, singing, guitar playing, drumming, keyboards, bass. In ways which display the talents of the players to the maximum of their potential. That is also the very reason why I am not a very big fan of Death Metal, the guitar riffs are too simple and the vocals are just boring, there's not much to captivate and entertain me when it comes ot Death Metal. Im a fan of the more melodic stuff, the stuff with guitar solos, keyboard solos, clear tone singing parts as well as rough tone, ect ect.
Also that point about James LaBrie being classically trained does not really make a difference. A lot of metal musicians are, for instance the lead singer of Imperanon....And Alexi Laiho played Violin for 11 years before he picked up a guitar, it's the same story with many other metal artists.
Anyway that's not what this thread's about.
Favourite non metal singer....probably Corine Bailey Ray, and that's just for the voice. the songs are really boring imo xD
I think it's interesting how many metal fans there are here. I really never listen to it. I have some of Chris Cornell's music because he did the theme for Casino Royale, but other than that, metal just hurts my brain. A little Bach here and there mixed with some Ben Folds is fine by me.
The main reasons why I started liking metal in the first place was 1: I enjoy it, 2: I started to learn the guitar, after I found out just how difficult it is to do what these guys can do my respect for them boosted tenfold.
oo oo beth orton <3
Regina Spektor aswell
That girl wasnt that good rabies. I got about 10seconds in and it didnt interest me.
The guy from opeths voice wasnt too great either, but it mightve been the song giving him no justice with not much range in the song.
