This is how I would edit it. But I would have used an image with good image quality of course, haha.
Step by step:
1. Duplicate layer, go Image > Adjustments > Shadow/highlights. Raised the shadows and lowered the highlights (just a tiny bit for the highlights). Now we have more tones in the image. But it's almost a little too much, so I masked some parts of the trees to maintain depth.
2. Curves, boosted the contrast.
3. Hue/Saturation, lowered the saturation to -33.
4. New layer set to overlay and created some black to transparent gradients from the left upper corner and bottom. Masked some parts of it where it was too dark or disturbing.
5. New layer set to overlay, added some highlights to the pants, just like in my photo retouchning tutorial.
6. Did the same thing again, but with his t-shirt.
7. Added a dark green photo filter at 80% to get some nice "street" colors.
Took only 3 minutes to do, it's very simple, but the outcome is great! But this was a low res photo with low quality so I didn't care so much about details.
