people in europe have been drinking since they were kids, so when they turn 21 they arent all like OMFG LETS GO OUT AND GET DRUNK EVERY NIGHT NOW LOL like we do here in america, thats what causes accidents...its not a big deal to them
over there drinking is drinking, over here drinking is breaking the law and omfg ur a "badass"

There is nothing wrong with drinking imo when you get to college. High school and younger its really stupid though. imo drinking isnt really a bad thing if your not stupid about it, and its a good way to have a good time with some friends.
It just seems pointless because, unless you're trying to get completely wasted (assuming that's a drinker's idea of a good time), what makes it any better than any other drink that doesn't have alcohol in it? So, its bad because the way people have a good time with it isn't to just drink it, its to get really drunk. There wouldn't the same appeal if you couldn't get drunk off of it. So basically, its stupid at any age being that "a good time" consists getting hammered.
Also, its usually college students that drink themselves to death, so its just as dangerous then if not more so.
I used to drink a hell of alot, I realized after seeing my mums alcoholic boyfriend in full swing that it was not something I wanted to follow up, Im glad I cut down my drinking to parties or the occasional pub crawl.
also that I'm underage and dont want to ruin my liver before im 18 ;)
If it was harder to get in pubs/clubs it would be easier to avoid it completely, but ah well.

He's right. though I feel you shouldn't be able to drink before you're 18. When you are 18, I think you should be able to drink. Hell, if you canf ight for your country, why not have a Corona doing so? :DQuote:

in Britain, it's 18 to drink.
Americans dont drink for the taste, they drink to get drunk. Which is dumb. In europe its 18 because even on holidays (that i know of) the parents allow their kids to have like 1-2 beers and its fine. Because they actually like it. My dad used to get alcohol when he was a child in Germany and was allowed to drink a little and it was fine.
But here in the US, you cant even carry a case out of the store when your mom doesnt want to carry it (happens to me lots).
I personally dont drink, and its better that it has an age limit here in the US. Too many people would drink and drive and stuff like that.
well here u can by 3-5 beer at 18, but there's no point. it's weak shit
My view is ofcourse totally biased, as I have never lived in nor been to America, but I think the European drinking laws (as a whole) are more sensible, as, by the time most of us reach legal drinking age, we have been wrecked before, so when you do reach 18, its no big deal, and you dont go get trashed every week for the next half year, as someone pointed out earlier on.
Also, at the age of 16, you're allowed a bevvy with a meal in a restaurant, which is ofcourse a cultural thing, but I personally think countries which do not allow this would benefit from it, as it takes away the idea of drinking as being this, badass, rebellious thing to do.
I'm all for drinking in moderation, I'm all for having a good time every other weekend, going on a big £40 pub-crawl and returning home legless at 4 in the morning, But I'm not for drinking in excess, and by that I dont mean binge drinking, as its pretty much the only way an under-ager CAN drink (and i'd be lying if I said I haven't done it)- you cant exactly but half a bottle of cheap tonic wine (MON THE BUCKFAST!) in the fridge when your 14 can you.
Drinking daily however is something I dont agree with. at all.
