hmmm i agree with dcn. I hope this is going to be a nice place to chat to your friends and just to enjoy your art. Static i used to have alot of respect for you and thought you were a great guy. But now im not so sure.

Art shouldn't be a competition, but rather an enjoyment for everyone. Yes NSL is a shit hole that is 99% asshat, I don't know why you bought up fathom though (well actually i do, we'll come to that later), fathom actually had talent in it.. Yeah the site died, but the people who were members (EGOS ASIDE) were actually good at what they did...

I remeber it quite clearly, you made some massive application that was like half a page long, and you got denied. so, you're either calling yourself a tool, to a guttless community of scumbags (your words not mine) or you are just bitter that you wasn't accepted...

To Busta: I applied at NSL to be rated by the judges just to see how they would rate me. Of course, I got suspended only hours later. The point is that I can imagine Nyhl either was curious when applying or seeing if they would even let him do it. Of course, they denied him, proving that they weren't looking for intellectual members, for I can imagine that Fathom was the same as NSL: a popularity contest involving poorly made, cliche' forum signatures that dictate administrative powers.
I never visited Fathom, so I won't assume that much about it, but I feel the need to ask: Why are you defending a dead site? What's with the mass amount of pride?

I wouldn't knock the man for defending a dead site. Before I came here I used to be on Digital Industry. I called that site home. Too bad they ran out of money, I had some good friends there, glad some of them came here. I'm not gonna knock Fathom cause I never been there but I have been to NSL and there are some jerks there.

I still design, but not as much as I used to. I create vector graphics and documents for certain companies (e.g. Crossfire Paintball, OEC, Eternal Design, etc.). But besides that fact. Who said anyone had to be a designer to have wits? That logic isn't well vindicated.

I was a tool, just like most other people... I came to the realization though. That's the difference.

I'm bashing these sites for their management, not the normal members they contain.
Fathom had talent, they were making it exclusive to them though. As if a style wasn't accepted until you were a member of Fathom. They had shitloads of talent, just tried to contain it and claim talented people as their own.

This is why independent art groups are still around. They accept members, but don't condemn others. They also don't mind if you support them as a designer or not.

Agreed. Many of the members there had really good understanding of composition. I think what most people were against, though, was the whole "private art community" thing. I mean, to be honest, it really was a popularity contest in a lot of ways.
