What program is this guy using?

Um, well that would be a lot of work IMO to create something that flashy in Illustrator. I am not even sure that I could do that to look that good.

Not really, it'd be a lot more difficult to create something like this, this or this in Illustrator.

id say its more C4D or 3DS max with touch ups in PS.

You could very easily make that in PS if you got a hold of the Alien Skin Eye Candy 5: Impact plugin. It has an extrude filter that can turn a 2D shape into 3D with the right lighting in seconds. For example, I used it to make the 3D text in my current sig from a 2D text layer to which I had added blending options and a perspective transform. I also used the same technique to add 3D to the cogs in this sig, (even though, bizarrely, I originally made the cogs in Cinema 4D :S ):

Eye Candy 5: Impact retails for $99. Which is a far more reasonable price for the average hobbyist than C4D.

O rly? How long do you use c4d? 1 day? C4D is totally capable of making such materials. And about the image.. I think its originally made in a 3d-program. Than it's vectored with some nice gradient's and effects 100% sure illustrator is used..
