hey all, i just got back from a diving trip off the coast. wasn't expecting this much feedback! haha.
For those wondering:
I shoot with a canon rebel xti. I intend to purchase a Nikon d300 after I graduate as well as a few telephoto lenses.
The Nikon d40 is a great starter camera. It has a lot of the features that you need in a dslr and has quality that is just as decent as larger cameras for most situations.
As for patience and skill, it all comes with practice. Nobody takes perfect pictures. I just hit the 5000 mark on my Canon and can say I've only taken maybe 100 that I am proud of. The trick to being a good photographer is to never show your bad shots!
