hmm apple had a fluke with the iPod which managed to revitalise their company, in all honesty if the iPod hadn't have happened then they most prob. would have gone under.
The iPod was successful because it cost far too much and looked cool, which made it popular with the rich people in holywood and NY. this made it very trendy and now it outsells competitors. The competitors offer beter quality and more features from a more mature product line.
If Apple were in consoles it may look good and be trendy to have, but you wouldn't have any advanced features, you could only buy games from an apple iGame web site, you could only plug in apple products, etc etc etc.
At least MS is supporting any device that is USB compliant and are trying to be the best gaming solution, not the trendy gaming solution that ties you into devices from a particular brand (something that sony love to do, just look at blue-ray CDRoms, Memory Sticks, and their mini disks).

Those pictures of the new Sony Playstation 3 look pretty amazing. From the looks of it, it looks like it's going to be one powerful system.

Actually the previes sucked ass. If i wanted to see that i would play ut 2004 on my pc it looks exactly the same. The xbox 360 has twice as much memory as the new ps3. It has 512 while the ps3 has only 256. Buti wish micrsoft would have gone with nvidia graphics. I like nvidia. I am biased with microsfot tho. I really love my xbox. I cant wait for the 360!

Microsoft decided not to go with a specific graphics card manufacturer because of previous problems. in the first XBox both Intel and Gfx Card Manufacturer (can't remember if it was Nvidia or not) owned the chipsets, Microsoft was licensing the technology.
This means that if they had stayed with the old system, both Intel and whoever could increase the price each year and Microsoft couldn't get anyone else to build them.
This time around they own the technology/patents/copywrite/whatever and they can farm off manufacturing to different plants around the world. this lets them reduce the price as the various manufacturing companies will compete for the business.
So all in all it means better bang for your bucks.
Oh and I wouldn't pay too much attention to how much memory is available. I spose it will limit the maximum size of levels and such but generaly the memory requirements of these dedicated systems are always a god awful lot lower than a PC. Best to see what the various independant developers have to say about this (by independant i mean developers who make games for both platforms, not the ones that are in the back pocket of Sony or MS).

Nintendo has revealed their console as well. it is soo small. it's called the revolutiona you might know. It will be very fast and will support Wi-Fi internet compatibility. Nintendo also claims that it will be possible to play every nintendo game created on the console. the controllers have not been revealed. they are supposed to have some kind of nifty thingy so they have kept it under wraps. If most of the gaming community considered the nintendo gamecube second rate to the PS2 and Xbox, because of its hardware, or whatever I think that Nintendo will again be catching the eye of its fanbase once again. It will definetely be an interesting console war.

In my opinion Nintendo's are made for not-so hardcore gamers. I don't think it will do as well as the Xbox 360 or the PS3.

hmmm its going to be interesting. Normaly it comes down to titles, a lot of people by because of the titles available for the various platforms. Though this is waning a lot as more and more companies are releasing for both platforms.
I think as an entertainment device the XBox has the edge, it has better support for HDTV streaming, cameras, etc, while the PS3 will continue to push the Sony line of products.
All I can say is, let the battle begin. Btw, I have an XBox and PS2. Got the PS2 the xmas it first came out, and got GT2 the day it was released. Got the XBox quite a while after it was first released and my impression is that even though the Xbox is ugly, I prefure it.

i cant wait til 2006... i love sony and this is gonna OWN. ill probably get all the others too but im probably gonna spend the majority of my gaming time on the PS3.
And to whoever said that mac should make a game console, i totally agree. Microsoft is jsut getting more popular with the xbox AND thier PCs. If mac made a console then they would even it out a bit.
