I've seen this done many times before, and you have used the lq version of that stock which is why it had to stay that small flatty:) You have the right idea but the execution is off. Try to think more about compo.. position the figure in a more appealing way. Also the filter you used for lighting effects generally doesn't work- You get better results from the dodge and burn tools. And finally try to work on blending:)
So basically you have the right idea, just improve techniques, add details and try to be more original :)
