Not sure, but the community is a reason. There's no eliteists and everyone's on the same level.
I say that because internet = serious frickin' business. :p
As well as criticism because on another forum I'm (or was) on before I joined, all I got was "cool". No word of a lie. xD

Originally I joined to get better at sig designing. Once I became a larger part of the community and more well known I critiqued and put out like 2 pieces a day. Then I got promoted to mod after winning quite a few forum awards.
Ever since then my main purpose has been to cover my responsibilities here on the site and still make time to design a sig here and there.

It would be sick if this became a community of great designers, through our trials and errors and criticism from peers.

Most members tend to come and go though. This site has been around since 2004.

Mainly because people get discouraged easily or because their lives interfere with graphic designing.

And not that many people really dedicate their selves to gfx

I think its counter-productive to focus too much on sigs because in the real world they're not much use. Instead of just creating sigs, people should expand beyond their boundaries to wallpapers, photo manipulation, web design, etc.

I used to do a lot photomanip, but then learned about sig-making on a gamesite I used to play. Got addicted to it now...
