About 2 the rest are burned.
Funny, bands do make a profit off their cd. Even if you buy it through a big name store. Realistically you're getting overcharged so that everyone makes a profit. Think about it .. a cd in Canada retails around $22.99. The band recieves a 10% profit from each cd sale. 10% of 22.99 is... ~$2.30. So that 2 dollars can accumlate quickly. A band sells 1 million records, hey they have $500,000 in their pockets (give or take). The rest of the money doesn't go right back to the record label. The money used from bands profits returns to the band in advertising and tours, ect.
No to mention if you have lets say a local band on a smaller indie label, the stipulations on their contracts allow them to sell their cds at their concerts for a 100% profit. There are no record exects at the shows stealing their 80% or whatever it is.
So in conclusion, buy cd's. Especially if the bands you like are underground indie bands. They need all the help they can get.
Oh and I probably own about 60-70 cds.
wtf, how the hell is 500,000 10% of a million, thats 50%... so they get 100,000Quote:

The math is alittle weird there... Generally artists make more like 8% off each CD sale, sometimes less sometimes more it depends on the deal they make with the label. Their biggest profits come from touring and promo's (advertising, guest appearances, etc.) But don't fool yourself into thinking that stealing music is only stealing from the record label.
Also, not all record labels are as evil as the sub-pop scene would like to make you believe.
Ya somewhere in the 2 range :D
mIRC is great :D
I own two Bone Thug CDs just to support my favorite group. Other than that, my entire collection is on a few MP3 cds =).
most of my music collection is mp3 based and on the PC but from the 'days of yore" when i used to buy them. between 4 and 5 hundred.
I'm a music addict
lol i haven't bought a CD in a very long time. i might have accumulated a total of 5 or so in my lifetime. downloading for free has always seemed like the logical way to go, even now with CD prices relatively cheap. i compare my current financial status to that of any artist whose CD i would be tempted to buy and they are all generally still doing better than i am so downloading is the way to go.
well i have about um.....lets see 10 that i actually had bought. and thanks to the wonderful BT network, i have 200 albums and counting.
