Even tho i'm christian, i believe there shouldnt be any religion in school. I dont see the point, just leave it at home. Wear your religous clothing or w/e and shut the hell up. I actually have a few muslim friends and class mates. (they are pretty nice people, i must admit.)
So... i think satanism should not be allowed in school, along with all other religions ( including christianity).

I don't think they should go up to people wearing a cross and kick them out of school. Same thing with people wearing 666 on their shirt...

lol tacox. Understand your sentiment. I think the idea in france about the laws baning overt religious symbols and dress was to remove the religion from the schools, just like removing gang colors from school in america helps remove gang problems in school. Of course it doesn't remove the problem but it makes all the PC people feel good because it's not obvious.
Personaly I think it's good. I beleive people have the right to practice whatever religion or beleif system they wish as long as it doesn't impact on anyone else's freedom of choice. This to me means door knocking should be banned, along with handing out tracts in the street, holding dubious IQ testing as a way to get you in the door, wearing in your face T-Shirts proclaiming your religion and how everyone else should beleive it, billboards with religious messages, etc. I spose dress code is another part of this, but in school it is a tough issue.

You bring up many good points, and I'm going to abstract on a few of them (mind me getting a bit off topic here and there)...
I personlly don't feel there should be a dress code at all, even preventing gang clothing. People know whos in what gang anyways, theres no way to ban specific colors. As soon as they're off school grounds you know the bandana's come out, the pants get rolled, and the laces are in. I don't think it helps very much if any.
I also don't like the idea of people pushing religion in your face, and i'm totally against that or anything similar. But if people want to wear a shirt that shows what religious values they have I don't mind at all.
I think its good that people can practice whatever they wan't - although I dont think it should promoted by the schools themselfs (by saying this I mean staff, lessons, etc). I don't think it should be shunned apon either by staff (restricting clothing, etc)

I would like to know why they even did this. People do not go around praying to the devil in the middle of the hallway or class... how did tih subject matter even come about in public schools?

Hmm Tacox you raise an interesting point, religion promoted by schools.
When I went to school they had RE, Religious Education. I dont know about now but every public primary school in australia had it back when i went to school.
When my eldest went to school they had it back then, so that was about umm.. 10 years ago.
The problem is they only teach one kind of religion, christianity, and to me that's not fair. RE should be an exposure to the different religions out there and promote understanding of others view points, not indoctrination that god is real if your a white anglosaxon and go to the Church of England (or Aglican in Australia). Basicaly RE has been a tool of the Anglican church to educate the 8 year olds of the world about what they beleive is the Truth.
Personaly at that age their brains are like sponges, indoctrination of ideas is very easy to do, and providing only one view point is so wrong. As well as the fact that they dont get taught that a lot of peple dont beleive in a god, or are budists or maoists etc... and then it gets all political.
And then there are Catholic, Anglican, Uniting Church, Morman, AOG, Muslim schools that not only teach our young what is required by law for an education, but they indoctrinate the children (well try) in the beleifs that the school holds.
Personaly I reckon that should be banned, but i understand that in some countries (ie. Iran), without the religious schools a lot of people wouldn't get educated, so its a tough one.
Btw, about the T-shirts, I think your right, but it can develop a culture of 'outreach' by religios groups, and when together they can gang up on a lone non religious person and try to 'encourage' them in their religion. I have experianced it and its not fun... thats more my leaning in not allowing it. but it woudl be a extream action in limiting personal freedom to express yourself. its a tough one.

im taking world religions next year. why? because i dont beleive in any religion, and i want to know how much the teacher expects us to know about christianity. i also want to be able to understand where people are comming from when they base their day to day decisions on their religion.

Sounds like an interesting course. I was about to choose Relgious Studies as an option in the fall but chose Greek/Roman Studies over it.

You'll learn that basically if you don't follow every religion there is you'll burn in one form of hell or another. It seems to be the same everywhere. Follow this religion or burn, follow that religion or burn, and so forth and so on.

Satanism shouldn't be banned. I don't think it is here in the UK.
If people have the right to worship God in schools, why don't people have the right to worship Satanism. America is supposed to be the land of opportunity and equality, correct, then they should stop dictating others' lives.
