I'm pretty sure you can get it the day you turn 15 after passing a written test. Then you can keep it until your 16 then you get your licence.
I have a friend who is 18.5 and he still has his permit (renewed it, just got his licence). Congratulations though mate - arnt you going / on vacation now - kinda a bummer.
