depends what you like for music. Ny dolls, ramones, nofx, reel big fish, big-d and the kids table, catch 22, rancid, greenday, misfits, and the list goes on. this is if you listen to punk or ska then you can&#39;t say that the US didn&#39;t have a HUGE part of it. but then again the kinks, clash, the Toasters and sex pistol were all from the UK and big in the punk and ska scene also.If your just talking music in general what about Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, EVLIS, Micheal Jackson (black mike not white), Beach boys, kiss, Aerosmith, guns and roses and much much more.

When it comes to UK football I have to say that at a young age everyone i know plays it. But on the other hand once you get older most schools don&#39;t really give great funding to the "soccer" teams (as we call it) and they give more of it to the Football, Baseball and Basketball teams. So I think thats why most kids switch to those sports or just don&#39;t play it any more. Plus if they showed it on ESPN a little more it def won&#39;t hurt either.

Oh one last thing, i can&#39;t wait till we switch the metric system.

I would have to say any EMO band is the worst.

I am a fan of new-age European Power Metal Opera-Rock (Blind Guardian, Poets Of The Fall) and most 60-70-80&#39;s bands and such. I just can&#39;t get into any new music, its all recycled shit to me.

keyword there is WORLD cup final. i wouldnt expect Germany or any other country in the world to watch the AMERICAN superbowl. Theres a huge difference there.

Some do some don&#39;t. I know some Aussies who watched it.

I&#39;m an American, and I like football. Now if you mean soccer, then that&#39;s another story, but by now you&#39;ve realized that I&#39;m only teasing you on account of your technicality.

i should rephrase my previous statement. People in America who like sports like Football(North American Football), Baseball, and Basketball generally do not like "football"/soccer.

I still dont understand why you guys call a sport that uses hands 75% of the time football, yet you call a sport where you are only allowed to use feet "soccer" :S it just makes no sense at all.

Soccer is cool and requires considerable more talent, but football is better to watch sometimes. And as to if America is the best or whatnot think about it this way, A person broke into a house and broke his leg, and he sued. He WON&#33;&#33;&#33; WTF&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33; This is the only country where bullshit like that can happen. Thats the beauty or downfall of this country really is the justice system. And the fact that we can make fun of our president on national tv doesn&#39;t hurt either.

My thoughts on America:

Well, in my opinion America is most certainly not the &#39;best&#39;. If I were to sum the country up I would call it a greedy self-obsessed nation who has little consideration for everybody else. That&#39;s what I truly believe. I find it fascinating that the European Union has a bigger economy than the USA and almost twice America&#39;s population, yet we don&#39;t let out nowhere near as much emissions (yes, i&#39;m going into Global Warming). Europe for the most part live a good standard of life, so why doesn&#39;t America bring its extravagance down to our level and do the world a favour, before Global Warming does indeed take over and destroy all the beauty we&#39;ve ever known.

Referring back to what I said about the nation having little consideration, I mean that they&#39;re refusing to reduce their emissions and join the Kyoto Agreement. The Kyoto Agreement, for those who don&#39;t know, is a treaty that many of the world&#39;s natons have signed onto in agreeing to reduce their carbon emissions. I think it&#39;s unacceptable that they have flat out refused, yet they get away with it because they can -- because they&#39;re the world&#39;s most powerful nation and everybody is secretly scared of them. And I hate that. They remind me of ... a school bully.

And, don&#39;t get me wrong here, when I refer to the USA as a nation, I refer to the Government and all those who support what the Government stand for. I am not referring to the general American. I have quite a lot of love for some of the American people. I&#39;m great friends with one I talk to on MSN; she&#39;s a wonderful girl. Also, they are a fellow English-speaking nation like Britain, which is ... comforting. So the American people I have no problems with. And who knows, I probably wouldn&#39;t have an issue with the country if its Government would do the right thing and sign Kyoto -- make an effort to reduce its emissions. Its excuse for not cutting back its emissions was that it would damage the economy. Might I remind you all that America has by far the greatest economy in the world, and even if Kyoto did damage it they would still be ahead of every other country and at least they would have the rest of the world&#39;s respect.

I just ... find it quite disgusting that the USA lets out more emissions than the European Union, when in fact we have the 456,953,258 million population (verses America&#39;s 298,444,215 ) thus having more poeple to sustain. If anything, Europe should let out more emissions, no?

But alas, stepping off America&#39;s greedy nature ... my other reasons why America aren&#39;t the &#39;best&#39;

Culture. Yes, I do think they lack culture. I think, generally, they have a British culture gone wrong -- gone greedy -- gone cheap fast food restaurants and obesity. Wouldn&#39;t ... wouldn&#39;t we all prefer to go to Paris and have a moonlit dinner with our special other, overlooking the Parisian river and the Eifel Tower? That is culture.

And they also lack history. Obviously they have a limited history because they only existed when the &#39;New World&#39; was discovered. Europe certainly has more in terms of castles and ancient crusades.

But overall, I do think America are greedy egotists. Too proud -- one thing they share with the French. One situation shows their slightly worrying thirst for power is the current situation in China. I think America is actually panicking. China&#39;s economy is set to surpass theirs by 2050, and America is now taking measures to supress China. It just goes to show their desire to stay on top. Another thing which I quite despise about them. They&#39;ve been on top for far too long now -- they&#39;ve grown too used to it and pride has got the better of them.

Yeah, now I&#39;m really rambling ... no one&#39;s going to read this.

If you want my opinion on which is the best country: Well then, it might suprise you but I wouldn&#39;t say Britain, even though I was born and raised here. I think our current Prime Minister is quite feeble. He&#39;s George Bushes lap dog in my opinion. I know I certainly wouldn&#39;t succumb to America if I were Minister. I haven&#39;t the faintest idea why we&#39;re in Iraq, but I suppose it&#39;s just to toddle behind America.

To the point, my favourite country -- I don&#39;t really have one, but I would most probably say Europe as a whole. All that history. All that culture on your doorstep: London, Paris, Berlin, Rome ... all with different quirks and ways of life. Europe is very concerned with Global Warming, and at times I think we are the only ones who are. We were responsible for pressuring Japan, Canada and Russia into the Kyoto treaty, and I&#39;m really proud to call myself European. I&#39;m very pro-EU and I&#39;m glad to have found new friends from Ukraine and Norway.

From what I remember by reading an article on the BBC, Europe&#39;s economy is falling slightly, particularly in Italy and Spain. I&#39;m assuming this is from cutting emissions with the Kyoto agreement, but guess what: Europe continues to ratify it. We do what is needed for the preservation of this world, not what is needed to boost our own power. I think we truly are a continent to be proud of and we have made great changes since World War Two. We are now a unified Europe and I&#39;d rather be nowhere else in the world. (Except maybe Japan. Video games rock&#33;)

I&#39;m sorry about the length; I got wrapped up in my own argument. And, no offense to any American/Non-American who reads this.

I do not agree with that above comment. The people from the south are most likely the nicest people you will ever meet, granted there are a few teenage hilljacks. People from the midwest are pretty nice too.

I was joking for the most part. I have friends from the south. the only problem with the south is that there for the most part all about Bush. They have a really poor education system down there. My friend who lives in Alabalma that the people had to Sue the state because of how shitty the schools were.

Hey CG do you mind If I add little bits to your post to make it easier to understand for us brits :)

As far as a nation is concerned, the US is fairly successful. It has a thriving economy, it controls an extremely large mass of land, it is home to much of the world&#39;s new cutting-edge technology, and it has the most advanced military in the world.

Culturally, Americans are fucking pathetic. This has been an issue in Europe recently as well, but modern Americans are weak. Children grow up with teachers, parents, and the government trying to protect them from "the evil of the outside world". The world isn&#39;t fucking hard and anyone who thinks that is either ill fitted at life or just a plain dumbass. Children who spend half their lives being pampered grow up weak and timid which is almost completely counter-evolutionary.

Something else I hate is the American concept of equality and how the government tries to compensate for some induviduals being "disadvantaged." There was recently a situation at my school where the students almost rioted, over the issue that less intelligent and even "mentally challenged" students can graduate from High School with the same honors as a regular student, without even having to meet the credit requirements. That is fucking ridiculous - an average student who works his ass off for 4 years will graduate with the same honors as a retard who can&#39;t even conceive of basic algebra. As a modern society, we need to look at this logically and let the weak be weak. There will never be any form of "equality" as all induviduals are different.

I have more to say on both those subjects, but I don&#39;t have a lot of time. I also don&#39;t even want to get started on Democracy, the government&#39;s total lack of control, thethetic state of the American education system, or other issues I have with this damned nation.


And yes, I live in the US.
