OMG a topic about emo's. Sure i know its a sterotype but still to listen to only that kind of music, which a lot of my friends do, would drive me insane. All they talk about is some form of depression or about some dumbass girlfriend (in the music and a lot in real life). Sure i guess dead would say "Oh there not really emo," but thats the onnly word i will use to describe them. And personally the music is to soft for me. Go listen to some Pantera or Megadeth for christs sake.
You can't tell someone to listen to something and expect them to take you seriously. And as a matter of fact, i'd be willing to say you've only listened to maybe 20 "emo" genre songs. When i say emo, i mean the actual genre, not the stereotype it's become. The only reason people say that's all emo is about is because enough ppl said something like that about it, and their friends adopted the views without finding out for themselves, and so on and so forth.
It's all over the world, as such with african americans being good at sports (the stereotype/common belief, that is)
You know what makes me laugh? How you guys can stand up and support your music while degrading others, becoming exactly like they are.
All rappers do is go up there and talk? Well don't bands just go up there and hit a bunch of strings in a certain pattern? Get some sense you idiot. If you want to make a point against stereotyping the word "emo", try to refrain from using self-defeating concepts, as it will not make anything better.
Now, back to the topic at hand. I heard alot of people talking about "your not gonna change our minds by mentioning different bands, and telling us to listen to them", and if you stand by this statement, than the whole purpose of this topic has been defeated completely. If you can't change peoples minds on certain subjects, why try de-stereotyping the word "Emo"? I mean sure, you can complain and stand against stereotyping, its a right you claim, but as I said before, don't be an idiot and use self-defeating concepts.
As for my stand on the word "emo", honestly I do believe they contribute nothing to society by shoving depression down our throats, but of course I haven't done research to support my statement, and I admit that. However, until then, I stand by my statement.
Music is defined as any sound appealing to one's auditory sense. The Rap genre very heavily relies on the meaning of the lyrics and thus includes very little music at all. I've said this a thousand times, and I'll say it again: go write poetry, and leave music to the musicians.Quote:

Here we agree. The "emo" culture, along with the music genre behind the movement, is a menace to society. It's breeding induviduals who are lazy, apathetic, and are moved by their emotions to the extent that they do not even have complete control over their body or their mind. Weakness will be the demise of the human race if fads such as this do not stop occuring....Quote:

If music is a sound appealing to one's auditory sense, would rap not be music then? Just because you might not find rap appealing, does not allow to speak on behalf of everyone.
WTF are you all talking about, jesus christ.
And wtf is emo? Like coldplay and shit?
I dunno, it all sounds retarded. Listen to music you like and Shut the fuck up.
basically what i think xtremerunnerars was trying to say was... he hates it how if someone is sad or worse, and how if someone is to dress in a particular way others refer to it as emo... either everything is emo as emo is abbreviated form emo, or nothing is emo as the whole misunderstanding and prolific use of the word has become out of hand..
.. anyone who refers to stuff like have your hair over your eyes as emo should grow a beard and shut the hell up, no one has a solid meaning for this abbreviation and therefore nullifies the word itself.. if no one can be responsible for what they say i say the majority of the world should be shot because the only reason they are a majority is because they do stupid shit, such said...
and redblaze is right the people who follow for the purpose of doing so then they are just pussy lame freaks...
no offense to those deadloaders here but i really really really hate emo. I dont find it either constructive or good. It takes little to no skill to play it and all it does is talk about getting dumped and cutting your veins and sadness and shit like that.
Emo kills hundreds of teens every year and still people say metal is bad?
metal has supposidly influenced brutal killing in italy but thats a load of bull i think the word emo should just be forgotton about
