I've always been a giving person, but I agree with some of Ryan and RedBlaze's opinions, not putting them in the same boat mind you. I don't think it's there fault, as it's mentioned more there governments. If they had the opportunity's to work for the pay we can, they would thrive.

As Illegal says, If they worked in the US, they'd be making it in the upper-middle class, no doubt. Currently though, they are suppressed by there government and there working conditions.

We all have to just realize how great a place the Usa really is, I guess.

Theres nothing wrong with donating to something that will actually help someone. But as I stated, most of the funding doesnt help and ends up in the hands of the wrong people. And yes - I do know that the universe does work itself out. We have yet to reach a carrying capacity - as every animal and species does (I hope).

Might as well just throw more money into the problem - if thats what you're saying.

I cant help but wonder what a country like africa might have been able to accomplish had they not been suppressed for hundreds of years.

The same question can be asked of people who are born into an impoverished family, someone who didnt even have the chance to contribute to society simply due to the situation they were forced into the moment they arrived into the world. Someone who grows up in a bad neighbourhood that receives no government assistance whatsoever.

Can you still say that someone like that should not be helped? Do you honestly believe that a person on welfare does not deserve a little help, provided they actually make the effort to find a job. Im sure you probably also believe that "they dont even try to work". Ive heard that so many times and it makes me sick.

Ive spent a weekend walking around downtown Toronto handing out blankets and sleepingbags to homeless people. Talk to them for longer than "sorry I have no change" and you might learn something.

I don't think there's anything wrong with helping people - although this is a debate about the ONE campaighn which seems to me to be a mainly finacial aid type thing.

Africa could be a great country. They have all the resources they need - much more than America. They arn't doomed yet - they need self-unassisted-reform. The last thing we need to do is go in there and start screwing with that govn't.

Some just need help getting on their(Hehe..) feet, I've helped out many a kid at our school going the wrong way in their(I'm on a roll!) life. All they needed was a friend and someone to give them hope and a dream, in some ways.

Staying on the topic of the One Campaign, Everyone wants to help someone less fortunate and give them equal opporunity...It's just a tainted situation as most of the money we donate won't go directly to them. :(

They need help, and they could get a lot more of it if Mr. President Bush would spend less $ on crap and put it to more important things like helping the people in poverty in Africa

Kat, he doubled the amount of donation money than tehre was in past years.

And I don't think this is on his list of priorities with all this terrorism going on everywhere.

What's all this talk about government?
Think about it, what real power does a government have? Without it's people, a nation would have no industry, no commerce, no outlook for capital, no military, it would have nothing. The government in many of these countries can only oppress the people because the people refuse to band together and stand up against the government, either out of fear, lack of will, or complete ignorance. No matter who the ruling party is, the power is always in the hands of the majority.
