there wasnt anymore water or food in africa in the 16th century than there is now, the rest of the world just didnt know about it, and theres always been wars and terrorists, nowadays terrorists just have better equipment.
and my opinion is that in a fev(maybe a bit more) centuries, technology has advanced enough to leave the solar system and all that crap and go find a new planet to consume. allthough if there comes a comet and hits earth itll pwn the hell out of humanrace. but thats not the destruction of earth.
In X years, according to scientists, a comet will pass by Earth, and there is a risk that we get hit. If we do get hit, we die. If not, we will be swallowed by the sun as it turns into a red giant, just before becoming a supernova, also according to scientists. It will happed in 335213791634123 billion years or something. The earth will only parish due to the sun exploding. Its 345353343535 billion years humans will have thought of a way to thwart a asteriod or comet or w/e colliding into the Earth.
The earth will die because it will be demolished to make way for an intergaltic hyperspacial highway.

About 5 billion years from now, the sun will collapse causing a supernova. but we'll all be dead long before the sun swallows the planet. Assuming we're still on this planet, we will be cooked to crisps before the sun reaches venus. so...the life expetancy of the planet is about 5 billion years.Quote:

The life expectancy of a sun is 10 billion years.
Of course that's assuming we don't blow it up first. We will be colonizing mars soon enough, probably within our lifetimes. At that point, who knows what the earth will be worth to us. it may just be a giant trash heap by then, worthy of demolition.
kinda agree with 43's views. Chances are we will screw it up so bad that only the ones that have managed to get off planet will survive. Serious expansion can only realy happen at FTL flight, which no one realy knows if it is possible, I think that's something that if developed, will be outside of our life time.
Of course sub FTL flight is defintaly feasable and big ARK ships are quite possible. I doubt if the current structure of the worlds governments would ever be able to pay for such a craft, but it is technicaly feasable within our life time.
We could send seeds to any number of other star systems, and most will fail (cause we are still no closer to finding systems with inner planets that are similar to earth). The odds are just not that good. But for the extended duration of the human race, currently its the only option.
But as has been stated, the world will end when the sun consumes it in it's death throws.
