As to the Eagles I liked "Life in the Fast Lane" better than Hotel California as a song, but that entire Album was great.
Zepplein was overrated in a lot of ways, but that mostly came after "Stairway to Heaven" got so very popular. Their music before that was just decent rock, listen to "Black Dog" see what you think.
Floyd was considered Phsycedelic rock at the time, as was most of the other groups mentioned. The Who very firmly fit into that category. Gotta agree with the Wall being the masterpiece but "Dark Side of the Moon" was equally strong.
Classic Rock has come to be a Genre now all it's own and in the 80's and the Disco era it was refered to Album rock.
Progressive rock started with Yes, Journey and such, Starship even morphed into it somewhat, later evolving into Devo, and some others along those lines. Personally I didn't care too much for it (although I did like Devo). I prefered the heavier guitar rock sounds and later move into "southern rock" Molly Hatchet, 38 Special..
Now it's hard to find any radio stations that play decent music unless you find a "Classic Rock" station.
