The official verified sleeplessness record is 11 days, set by high school senior Randy Gardner in 1964. He was monitered by sleep specialists throughout, and apparently suffered little or no negative consequences.
When totally denied of sleep rats die after 3 weeks. First their fur drops out, then they lose weight, then they lose their ablity to regulate their body temperature, and then they die.

I was going to stay up all night last night but I lost some stuff and I was furious. Just decided to call it a night early (1:30). I'm unbelievably exausted at this point - my eyes really hurt.
I've been surviving on caffiene (energy drinks, dr. peppers, coffee) and the greens to keep me moving... its a very eerie existance I must tell you. I need to sleep for about 15-20 hours to recoup. I plan on going to sleep once I get home from work.
Ryzee - are you sure thats the only record? I know that people have stayed awake (with pain) for 35 days at a time. I've also heard of a man who was awake for 35 years in a cave.
I'm also going to move this post to off topic I believe its worthy.

Tip: Wash your hair in lukewarm water. That'll wake you up ^.^ Just make sure it's not cold. And make sure there's a steady air flow, have a window open or something. I find that helps me ^.^
