how can it be your plan to better yourself if your following guidelines devised by someone else ..surely you need to work out how you use your life using your own rules and saying im Me not using the term "straight edge" to describe the way you run your life otherwise surely your just part of the crowd and in no way individual

its a broad term....the basis being drug free, alcohold free, and slut free (no promiscous sex). fairly simple guidelines. it sounded like a good idea and something i want to hold true for the rest of my life.

i'm still the same kid before and after i claimed straight edge. now i just dont go get plastered or try to stick my junk in some fine girl at a party before knowing her. i dont think i'm better than anyone else, and i dont act like it

Well, people every day are claiming shit about themselves. This is really no different than saying "thug for life". It's the same idea, just different music genre. The site seems like some sort of cult. I like some "emo" music, but when i say emo, i mean THE PHYSICAL MUSIC GENRE. NOT THE CLICHE IT'S BECOME. I've been listening to emo for a while, and it's really pissing me off at how "common/popular" it's become. I don't like it when people use emo as an adjective the same way gay is used every day. Now, anyone with long hair and who stands with their arms crossed is "emo". Anyone who sits in a chair and slouches back and puts their legs up is "emo". MAYBE THEY JUST WANT TO BE COMFORTABLE, DEUCHEBAGS! Gah, this is getting me all fired up, and i just want to go to bed.


Anyways, stick to what your music was made for, if you want to be "straighedge" be your own man, and work your morals out for yourself.

i've gone through enough that i know where i want to stand.

btw i think most the music i listen to has "EMOtion" in it.... music would be pretty boring without emotion. i hate how its a lame fad too. but whatever, people will do what they want

This is because the lyrics aren't supposed to make a song interesting, that's what the MUSIC is for. The MUSIC itself contains emotion and appeals to the senses if you are musically inclined enough to understand it, assuming you're listening to something work listening to. The meanings that the words hold don't add to the effect of the music at all, as music is defined as vibrations that appeal to one's hearing (I forget the actual word for that sense). The lyrics appeal to a more Literary sense, and really have nothing to do with music.

Alright, well i respect your commitment now that you're standing up for it. If you think this straightedge or w/e is for you, then go for it.

Being straightedge is something I'll never choose to be, but my cousin is straightedge and I still respect her decision. Feels really weird..I didn't really expect that coming from her.

yea i try not to make an akward situation with old friends that do drink. i dont its that big of deal and we can still have the same amount of fun as before in 7th grade.
