Definately getting better, just work on the view now :) try some rocks or something. Then you can do texture and lighting in one practise ;)

nice Vermilion, good shape and background.
The lighting is pretty good there verm, but i'd try and start with big brushes and work down to smaller ones. And never use soft edged brushes, either :)
The background looks nice with it :)

15mins.. used a reference, but only for outline of major features to get angles.
