THOUSANDS of passwords from Hotmail, the world's most popular e-mail service, have been hacked and posted online, according to reports today.
Microsoft, which owns the e-mail service, said that it investigating the matter. In a statement it said: “We are aware that some Windows Live hotmail customers’ credentials were acquired illegally and exposed on a website. Upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers.
"We are working diligently to help customers regain control of their accounts”.
The technology blog neowin.net revealed that an unknown hacker had posted the details of over 10,000 Hotmail accounts on a site used by technology experts last week. The details, posted on pastebin.com, have since been removed.
Just a warning out to everyone. It was recommended on the News today that all users have a look at changing their passwords, and possibly the secret question.
