My WiFi router keeps on messing up and not connecting to my wireless pci card. It will stay connected and for no reason at all just cut off.... it hasn't connected in about 24 hours... its pretty gay. the light won't even blink on the router for the wifi connection. *sigh* <_<
maybe the signal if blocked by something? im using wifi real cool XD
i know sometimes the intereference is caused by my cordless phone because it operates at 2.4 ghz as well, but there wasn't any electrical device that would cause interference at all that was turned on. i got angered and just shut down my computer last night and turned it on this morning and now the wifi is working so i dont know what the problem was.
Buggy firmware maybe?
It most likely isn't configured right and you will have to call someone out to fix it and talk on the phone for hours with tech support until you get the problem fixed.
Also this used to happen to me just unlug the wifi and plug it back in. Temp fix s you will eventually have to call out someone.
im not gonna call out anybody just because of this gay wireless router, but i have dont alot of unplugging and resetting, too much configuration. i dont know what i have to do to get it working right. its working good right now though for some odd reason, "very good connection".
i dont think phone or anything will have effect on it although i think the router will affect the phone or a radio or something
try switching channels. You can get alot of interference from alot of different places. Sometimes it's even as simple as having a door open or closed.
yeah i've already gone through all channels several times, it set on channel 5 be default, so i gradually moved it up to #10 and then backwards towards #1 it seems to be working best on channel 1. and yes a cordless phone can intefere with the signal and the wireless signal will mess up the phone as well if they are both operating on a relatively same frequency. i've been trying for ages to change the channel on the cordless phone, but it wont let me.

short of buying a new you... you may want to try a new antenna. get a real monster of an antenna and see if that helps. if not, then you're probably going to have to buy a new router.
i am thinkin about sending that router back to the company and have them send me a new one. i am gonna look up some warranty information and give them a call sometime soon.
be careful of this, a lot of places will charge you a service fee if they determine that there is no fault. The fault could be with the wifi card your using, not the access point.
What encryption are you using, and is it 802.11b or 802.11g? Also is it a custom one, and what brand is both the access point and the card? Did you buy them in a pack together or did you guy em seperate? Did both of them have stated that they were WiFi certified?
I suspect your getting interferance, though I do know that some of the early cheapo's were very suspect and died by themselves. Specialy if they can't handle irregular power and you have bad power in your house.
There's a tonne of reaons why it may not work, but this is actualy an area I work in (do a lot of WiFi work for clients), so through in some info before you return mate.
its an 802.11g router and its a linksys. i am using a dlink wirelessB pci card. bought them at seperate times. and right now i am not using any encription because i have reset to default settings on the router sooo many times. i am operating on the lowest channel available, channel 1 which is like 2.416 ghz or something. i know the cordless phone causes inteference but when its not in use i can't get signal for hours and then all of a sudden it will work again, even when all appliances in the house are off.
did they both have WiFi certified stickers/labels on the packaging when you brought em?
For best compatibility I find it best to buy the same brand name, but if they have the WiFi certficiation label (and it's ligit) then you should be okay.
But by your description, it sounds like your router. You can't switch to 802.11b? Also have you checked for firmware updates?
Btw, interferance doesn't have to be just in your house, it could be from next door or across the street. Have you tried putting both within 2 meters of each other, and did it work then? If yes, then most prob interferance from some external source (ie. outside of your house).
hmm, well I am pretty sure the problem wouldn't be buying an 802.11b router because it has compatibility, and yes they are both WiFi cert.Quote:

If I can I will set them closer together and see what the outcome is.
I haven't got a chance to upgrade the firmware, I will give it a try now though.
how many comps do u have including laptop that is using the wifi?
only one computer is using wifi, which is my desktop computer, and i have another compuer that is connected through one of the four rj45 ports.
