Well wtf? This guy apprently is living on his own planet. Last time I checked R rated movies had sex scenes, violence, and bad language. The NC17 rating is only for extensive sex and nudity.
It just boggles the mind that this guy wants to up the rating on a video game that would fall under the film category of R... because it's a video game. The only thing he's accomplishing here is removing the game from Wal*Mart shelves.
The game was made to shove all of society's qualms about decency ringht back in it's face and present many of these "problems" along with others in its own little cynical way. One review took this in but also realized what might happen if people understood these "statements" too literally and felt compelled to exemplify that misleading interpretation with it's rather used excerpts, "full blown sex sequences", "not a game for kids" blah, blah whatever. I dont' think it's fair for someone to read one review and not having even played the game himself decides to rant and rave about how innapropriate this game is according to this article and these statements. And then to say that it deserves the dreaded AO? That one's reserved for the pornos. (or naughty cheats) It's cel shaded for crying out loud. There have definetly been worse scenarios for these flabergasted senators to blow steam at. :huh: Anyway, I don't see a rating change for this game any time soon. This guy, to me at least, is just trying to do something to "impress" his video game hating comrades and stir up some negative activity for the precautious parent pool. what a sick world we live in. :blink: :unsure:
well i read a good review on the game at cnn.com, can't wait to play. but in the case of msrp ratings, in the same catergory as the game were several lawsuits towards gta: vice city creators rockstar because of their rating. i read that a mother was suing the company because she bought the game for her son and then caught him watching the secret nude scenes that you have to look on the internet to get the codes to unlock, if anyone should be punished it should be the 14 yr old kid for unlocking the content... not suing the creators to forfit all profits. wait i take that back, its both parent and child's fault, due to the fact that the mother should have read the msrp rating before even purchasing the game, the 14 yr old son should not have a gift from a mother that clearly states that the kid is not suitable to play the game. it makes me angry to think how stupid people are in this world. rockstar should be counter-sueing that dam woman for not following the rating. lol :lol:
technically M is 17+ :D and ao is 18+... only difference is that the large retailers for games dont carry AO games since... well it'll hurt their reputation
and yea its retarded how they go after games when the children have (easier? i dont know) access to the movies with sex scenes and sometimes more violence and drugs in R rated movies then alot of M rated games... can you rent R rated movies as a minor? anyone know?
No, you're not supposed to be able to rent or view in the theatres an R rated movie unless you have a parent with you. Although I couldn't tell you how well that's enforced.Quote:

I could be horribly wrong, but I think there's a difference (similar to the difference between NC17 and R) with the AO and M ratings. I know that you can get a parent to get you an M rated game, but I think stores aren't supposed to sell AO games to minors regardless of if the parent okays it or not. Same goes for R and NC17. If a minor goes with their parent they can get into an R rated movie, but not an NC17.
Anyway, this Thompson guy must have smelled a quick buck in suing the industry.

Well Im sure the recent "hot coffee" stuff helped those against GOOD games try and do more stuff with this AO rating junk. If you dont like the game or whats in it, dont play it, watch it, look at it, deal with it, and anything else you could do with it. I think they really just need to pull the stick out from their butts and deal with it.
As far as the M and AO stuff goes.. And stupid as it is to have M at 17 and AO at 18, it is needed.. Since any game that is rated AO has something to do with sex, its just like any other X rated content and needs to be treated with the same 18+ only rules.
