The feminization of men?

It used to be that women, and women only, pierced their ears, wore moisturizers with tint in them, painted their nails, wore skirts, and got waxed. More and more men are now doing this and it is considered acceptable.

My question to the forum. What do you think will be the next "feminine" thing that men will do and will be considered acceptable by the majority of society?

KEEP IT CLEAN! No references to anything in the "nether regions" will be allowed - I am sure the mods would close this thread as a result.

My thought? Makeup, and not just subtle makeup either.

I don&#39;t think i can think of anything men could do unless i had a period there&#39;s nothing else ... except well around here if you have long hair you get the shit kicked out of you .. and get steriotyped so whatever <_<

Well the issue here is cultural and related to the fashion industry. A lot of what happens in America and Australia follows what is happening in Paris, Rome, and London (and other EU cities). Australia tends to follow EU as well as America, but does some own inovation.

With skin care products, I beleive that started in france and then spread. Shows like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, brought such issues into the foreground for a wider american audience.

Mags like GQ and so forth bring fashion to the masses in our cultures, and it ends up being what the next trend is.

Not sure if makeup will ever be a hit for men, mainly because of the time required to do it. The majority of men will not spend inordanate amounts of time on self care for hair or skin or apperance. This is obvious by how long men spend in hair stylists, the amount of time they spend shopping for clothes, the amount of time they spend in the bathroom grooming.

Also music influences the dress and tastes of the young, just look at gansta rap... sad seeing all those idiots walking with hoods in the heat over here in sunny queensland.

As to what is next? hmmm, its a tough call. makeup is an obvious one, but i doubt if it will ever take, i think skin care will start to become big with the mainstream. specialy as we have an aging population in the western societies and the men will be increasingly aware of wrinkles, skin blemishes and so forth.

Besides i paint my nails black, have 00 gauge earrings, and occasionally wear hot pink eye shadow (not very often). does this make me feminine? No. next time i&#39;d say get your shit straight before you make a post like this.

I have a feeling that this thread was meant to be concerning Wester cultures. As far as I know, Egypt isn&#39;t a Western Culture.


Personally, I don&#39;t do any of these sorts of things. I&#39;m traditional when it comes to being a man. I can&#39;t really say what will come next however, as I&#39;m still laughing at the morons I see with piercings and eye shadow.

To tell you the truth, he has a point. It may not be femenine now to wear earings, paint your fingernails, etc. But think back in the day, people would have considered all that stuff girly.

I reckon that due to the aging and overweight population, that man bras will become popular with males, if not just for back support.

Just look at the job market. The glass ceiling is steadily breaking down. I think it was a pretty natuaral change. Take a look at different countries. In the countries where violence governers men are still controlling everything. But as technology and information replace physicality as a way of life, men no longer hold an advantage. Wether you want to admit it or not, men are built for physical work and fighting. We are natauraly stronger and more rugged than women. But women are just as intelligent as men, and they are even more apt at multi-tasking. Making women, at the very least, equal to men.

The only advantage men have anymore is in upper management. Men, for the most part, can work without emotion. Women, again for the most part, rely on emotions instead of blocking them. Which makes a man a more stable ball breaker than a women. A man is more likely to be able to make a decision that could ruin someones life without even thinking about it.

Of course those are generalities and not true in 100% of situations or for 100% of men/women. But we are talking about men and women in general.

So as the job market changes, so do societies influences and role models. Not to mention the surge of popularity the gay community is getting. No longer do young people see strong men running the world, they see strong women and gay&#39;s running the show as well.

Where does it go next? Who knows. Probably a resurgence of the sexual ambiguity that was so popular in the 80&#39;s. After all, 80&#39;s styles are coming back. Expect a backlash though. I&#39;m willing to bet 10 years from now you&#39;re going to see a huge move towards traditional male styles, flannel shirts and loose blue jeans. It&#39;s an inevitibility with the predictability of fasion. All you have to do is look back at the styles of 20-25 years ago.

Madd is right .. think back to say 1.5 million years ago, the world was free and anyone could do what they want, and then for some reason some twats took over and ended up controlling our lives, things got lost, many natural behavoural attributes were lost due to what a few people thought. People began to make a standard of what boundaries should be erect for men, women, children, adults, business class, upper class and lower class. It&#39;s like me going back to 1913 and saying women are cheap labour, nothing more .. bearers of babies and if you were upper class then the only thing they could be was trophy wives ... watch the mona lisa smile .. oh wait no that&#39;s a chick flick and i can&#39;t watch it because i&#39;m male. Lot&#39;s of boundaries have been broken and you wouldn&#39;t say a woman couldn&#39;t work? it&#39;s so primitive to divulge in self awareness about how we&#39;re meant to be because some people don&#39;t think it normal. Also read some of J.B Priestlys&#39; novels especially "An inspector calls" it shows equality, boundaries and such which, some we can still see today.

I do have many views that are somewhat abstract, but I am very traditional when it comes to this type of male/female interaction. I will NEVER get piercings, I will NEVER wear makeup, and I will NEVER act feminine. I can&#39;t see at all why our society is turning towards this whole "emo" stereotype, it&#39;s ridiculous. No, I&#39;m not thinking of the "scene". I&#39;m thinking of anybody who can&#39;t handle their own emotions. I&#39;m a little more lenient on Women, but anybody should really be able to hold their own. You gotta remember, all of our emotions and thoughts are caused by chemicals and electrical pulses within our brains.
