Rock is the heading that the many many subcategories of rock music go under.
Metal is a type of rock and then there are types of metal, for instance Dragonforce are Power Metal and Metallica are Heavy Metal. I could go on to list every single sub category and rock and every sub category of those categorys. But I would be here for hours so I'm not going to.
Anyway Arctic Monkeys are what is referred to as "Indy" nowadays.
Metallica is a pioneer of metal music, and here arent too many bands today, if any, that I like as much. Rock in general just isnt as good as it once was.
