True, but there are also flea flickers (pitch passes) and laterals in Football too. So in all reality, your Rugby diagram could work in the NFL too. So that&#39;s no argument.

Because there are rules and regulations in Football, it makes it more interesting. How many times have us American boys been glued to the TV, jumping up and down in the middle of the living room with 5 seconds left in the 4th quarter yelling "That&#39;s fucking ridiculous&#33; I&#39;m gonna kick the refs ass&#33; That was a touchdown&#33;" and there&#39;s some kind of holding penalty or pass interference. It&#39;s more exciting.

We all come from different places and will never agree, but I say NFL 100%.

NA Football takes more skill and any football payer could play rugby. Maybe not a 350 lb linemen and football is more fun to watch.

Well it depends realy, Rugby union is boring but i like league. I don&#39;t think american footballers could play rugby at all.

That&#39;s definitely not true there tyson. There are some rugby players who couldn&#39;t play football. While i admit rugby is a more painful sport, it&#39;s not like professional football people don&#39;t hit hard. The pads don&#39;t really do a whole lot...and the way that the american game is set up, without pads people would die. Before the 1930s, american football was played without pads, and people actually DID DIE. That&#39;s why theodore roosevelt outlawed many of the plays, and football until they revoked the no pads thing.


I&#39;d also be willing to bet that the best athletes in the NFL are better than any of the best athletes in rugby.



I hate kids that are my age and say football is better than every sport though....they&#39;re all fat and suck at life.

They&#39;re completely different, Rugby isn&#39;t more "pussy" it&#39;s just that the agression isn&#39;t needed to much. I won&#39;t say it&#39;s more tactical, the tactics are different.

American football has always had pads, so it&#39;s gonna have more contact, they&#39;re not going to be fitter. You can&#39;t get any fitter then any pro athlete. That&#39;s down to skill level, an american footballer would struggle in a rugby game, as would a rugby player in an american football game.

My opinion has been stated.

i suppose fit depends on the definition of fitness. At an early age, either athlete could become good at either sport, but once they start playing their sport, it&#39;s very tough to change between rugby+football i imagine.

Can anyone imagine what would happen if you got hit by Roy Williams w/o pads on?

Sadly dale, for many it really does. I&#39;d play lacrosse, except there are so many kids who play just to be allowed to knock the hell out of people, and not get in trouble.

Violence is not the least bit why i watch football. Watching Reggie Bush is like poetry in motion or seeing a 70 yard bomb tiped and caught.

And That still doesn&#39;t make it better, NFL is over - commercialised, Rugby .. is under...

It&#39;s not just the UK who play or watch rugby though.
Have any of you who said you don&#39;t like rugby actualy played it?
If not you should, you would see it does take a lot more skill than you think and it is a good game.

This is like an apples and oranges debate. These are two very different games. :P

P.S. For the sake of hypocrisy: I like Rugby, but not as much as FOOTBALL (soccer)

I enjoy football more, more tactical etc, however rugby is fun too, its probably because when i get to watch football i do, i can watch rugby alot, heck i go down to the local club alot (they PWN :| though, if they keep doing as well as they do and get moved up to 1st dvision, (under he Zurich premier) then they wont have enough money :()

And about the pads thing, some rugby players wear pads too, just not mega huge ones..

i prefer rugby. granted american football must take some degree of skill to be able to play well, but it just doesnt seem like its that difficult. you run, you catch the ball, you run over a line and, presto&#33; you score. but, its pure opinion, and, being australian and having never watched a real american football game, i am not really one to judge.

Dale you&#39;ve got alot of incorrect information in your first post there. Especially that qoute by Sgt. Swabs where he says you can just through the ball foward in football. You can only through the ball foward if you&#39;re behind the line of scrimage, which is the point where the ball is hicked from.

Also, it seems people think because football players wear pads it&#39;s somehow less violent and aggressive. The thing you may not realize is that the only real padding is the helmet and the shoulder pads, which only really protect the person doing the tackling. I happened to live next door to a guy that plays both football and rugby for local leagues. I asked him about which is better. he told me this. "I have more fun with rugby, but football is way more violent." Think about it, even with all that padding players still regularly break arms, ankles, shoulders, noses (through a helmet&#33;), and get concussions bad enough to cause brain damage.

Which is better...it&#39;s a personal choice. Rugby certainly seems more elagant. But if you&#39;re asking which one is more physically painful, Football wins hands down. Ask anyone that plays both sports seriously.

This whole debate reminds me of a friend of mine from whales. She couldn&#39;t figure out what the big deal was with baseball, it looked like cricket except they couldn&#39;t even hit the ball. That is, until we went to a game and she got to see that the pitcher throws the ball at 98mph (157kph) from only 18 meters away.

If it was as easy as you Europeans seem to think it is, it wouldn&#39;t be a nationally telivised sport.

So what.. i could post a link to this, loads of dodgy rugby tackles. This isn&#39;t about which sport is more violent, it&#39;s about which is better / takes more skill. NOT who is the bigger player, and who could beat the crap into any other player. .. .

This is just a perfect example of Europeans stereotyping americans as untalented and uneducated heathens. We have the worlds best olympics teams all-around. Obviously the talent and skill comes from somewhere. If you haven&#39;t played a league game of football then where are you getting your information from?

And I don&#39;t know how you can even consider comparing those rugby tackles to the football tackles. did you miss the part where a 300lbs man was tossed 4 ft into the air like a ragdoll, spun a full 360 degrees and was hit again? If you want me to find them, I know there&#39;s a handful videos online of football players snapping legs and arms like twigs, and those don&#39;t even make the "hardest hits reel" at the end of the season. Do you even know why they wear helmets? It&#39;s because before they had the helmets people were literally cracking there heads open like egg shells.

Snapping peoples arms and legs might be fun to watch but it doesn&#39;t make it the better sport to play imo lol. I&#39;d like to play american football though, it does look fun.

These are the faster, strongest, most athletic people in the world, and they&#39;re trying to out run, out muscle, and out think eachother for 4 quarters. I&#39;d say that takes talent and skill.
