Isn't Apple being sued by Cisco over this? Either way..I'm passing, at least for a while. I just got a new mp3 phone two weeks ago. Good enough for me for the time being.
st00ped. Apple needs to stop trying to take over the whole world and stick to making iPods. Yes the iPod was a hit, that doesn't mean that everything you produce is going to be one.
I was hoping nobody would bring up the lawsuit, just because it really doesn't make a difference.
Cisco owns the name iPhone. that's all that the lawsuit is about. it'll be resolved in no time.
Think of the price.
8GB iPod
3.5inch touch screen
Phone
Internet
etc.
And also, imagine how fragile the screen will be. 3.5inches, and no cover, and its going to be used everyday by some people. Fat chance of it not breaking.
Failplz
big and secksy =]
by time the sucka gets over here it will be like £400-£500
looked at all the features/specs.
It's an incredible phone, I'll give it that. but like rob said, with all it can do, it's more than any other phone on the market, and Apple (unless I missed something) doesn't provide a service plan with it, so it's just a hassle to get a plan with it. I don't like phones like that because I want my phone to be a phone, my PMP to be a PMP and my computer to be a computer. I don't want them all in my pocket. It's nice, if you're going to use all of those features everyday. My main issue is that everyone and their MOTHER is going to want this phone. I want options and variety. It's the most advanced phone on the market (IMO) it's got one of the highest mega-pixel cameras for a phone, and it's an iPod for christ sake! I hate all those snotty stuck up bitches that get an iPhone because Daddy had the money to and they want the hottest shit...most of them can't even spell iPhone, or even APPLE. Anyways, these are just generalizations, please don't take any offense to this post if you fall under this category! :D
All in all, it's going to need a couple of years and some competition before I'll consider buying this thing.
Its $300USD on 2yr contract.
Fuck that, It must be well fragile. And I dont even use my phone for anything but calls. Eugh. I hate apple. The sickening thing is that they claim its revolutionary. They have just combined a touch screen, with a phone, and an iPod. Its a friggin blackbury with touchscreen!
Also, samsung has an 8gb music phone out, just no touchscreen.
The worst thing is that I goto a private school, with loads of spoilt kids in it. Cant think of how many people are gona get this. >.<
1) The multi-touch sensor is revolutionary. This technology was just released a few months ago.
2) Video Voicemail is incredibly cool.
3) This product isn't targeted at you (people under 18) it's targeted at business professionals who are using blackberry's and etc. right now.
4) Cingular has the contract for these phones. You will be able to get the phone with a service plan
5) Any pricing information you're seeing right now can probably be disregarded. The phone hasn't even been released yet (June 2007)
6) It's pretty much guaranteed to come with some kind of a flip cover case like every PDA on the market. It's going to be no more fragile than a pda or treo. Assuming they solder all the internals together well.
I think apple consistently does things right. They don't rush into a product without proper R&D and they never follow the norm. You guys are looking at this as a replacement for your simple cell phones. That's not what it is, it's a replacement for treo's, motorola q's, blackberrys, etc. mobile phone/pda combination hardware. It does it's job and it does it better. If you want a cell phone then get one, if you want a cellphone/pda then get the iphone.
I dont really care about all the extra crap that some phones come with. All I need is for it to make calls.
When they presented it, they stated £300.
And Kids will still buy then. You say cingular has the contract for them. Cingular isnt available over here, so will it be available on other networks?
I sure hope so. I want one badly :) Apple is class. The touch-screen is what I'm most curious about. Most touch-screen gadgets on the market are bullshit because of the delay. I'm sure Apple is up to the task to perfect the touch-screen.
I think it's a cool idea but the price tag is kinda high for me. And unless it can be used with T-Mobile, I won't be able to use it.
I don't see how kids buying it is apple's fault. they designed the product specifically to replace blackberry's and the like. If some rich kid wants to get one, it's not apple's problem.
I assume there will be a European carrier. What does AT&T have over there? T-mobile is actually pretty unpopular in the states, so it's probably not going to be released with them (at least not in america). I know t-mobile is huge in Europe, so maybe it will go with them in that market.
The touch screen is amazing. Like I said I saw the multi-touch sensor a few months ago. At the time though it was on a really big screen and they were doing a lot of impractical things with it. I'm glad to see someone found a good use for it.
I'm pretty sure Rogers will carry it in Canada muaaah. iPhone must surely spark innovation out of its competitors.
its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive. a normal person wont be able to afford it. i think it will sky rocket when its price goes down.
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. My iPod already is sorta scratched even though I'm like really really really really careful. I can't imagine how quick it would take for the iPhone to scratch, crack, or even just plain break (my brother's nintendo ds has a cracked lcd screen, so it works, but you can barely see the game where it is cracked).
Now, if you have a quite large device that in your pocket a lot, getting taken out all the time, and has a sensitive touch screen with no cover, it will probably break in less than 5 days.
I wouldn't want to get this even if it was unbreakable (I never use my cell phone).
(I admit though, if I were a rich and spoiled I would be like "PLEASE!?!?! PLEASE CAN YOU GET ME A iPHONE?!?!? PLEASE?!?! :D" :o Because, honestly, with all practical things agruements aside, that is the coolest thing ever.
yeah, the idea is cool... shit but then it's already been around for a while.. touch screen.. phones.. music.. INTERNET.. it's nothing amazing.. it's just a company packing as much media into one device as possible.. i bet if i got a grant to designa touchscreen/phone/camera/mp3/internet/console/(undisclosed due to i'm thinking about actually making this) <.<
apple are just ahead of their competitors is all.. and grats to them.. but another year, another ipod.. the ideas have been around for years so whatever but apple have arsed around so this is their turn to shine i guess.
Hmm... it's nice. but for a younger person it's pointless. everyone has an mp3 anyway, and everyone has a phone.
Sucks that they only put a 2.0 camera on it. That's weak. my phone has a 2.0 and it's nearly a year old now...
i think the best camera is the Sony Ericsson k800... 3.2mega pixel camera.
5mp is the best camera phone quality.
It's deffinetly a weak camera. How often do you take pictures with your camera though?
The more I think about it the more I like the touch screen idea, and the lack of a number pad. I can't remember the last time I actually dialed a number by hand.
2mp its a bit of a let down, my current one has a 3.2mp camera and i use it alot, if im in town drinking i dont take my digicam so my phone works for that and in college, im far too dependent on my phone...
without it id be lost i sleep with it under my pillow and everything ^^
never mind cristo in rio txting my mate!
All I want, is an mp3 player, with a camera in. And THEN Phone capabilities.
The problem with this, they have focused on the phone.
phone > camera > mp3
the way it should be
but in apples case being an iphone and all
mp3 > phone > camera

I don't think apple really focused on one thing in particular. The phone is fantastic, the way they have setup contacts list, the simplistic syncing, visual voicemail, sms text messaging, and even the way contact information is displayed is perfect. Plus, if you watch the keynote address you'll see just how fantastically simple putting people on hold, merging calls into a conference call, and all your usual phone functions are. By creating their own UI (not using a standard keypad) the layout is much simpler and more intuitive than anything I've used before (and I'm a huge Sony Ericson fan).
The ipod part of it seems mildly neglected, although they've added a bunch of cool new features, like the cover flow view, it only comes in 4gb and 8gb versions. figure 1gb is taken up with photos, software, and other junk and you're down to 3gb/7gb. Although it beats out a nano/micro/shuffle it's not quiet as big as I'd like it to be. However, this is first and for-most a phone/pda not an mp3 player. (it does play widescreen movies though, which is just cool).
Also, it's important to note that the iPhone automatically connects to any WLAN or Bluetooth devices. So you don't need to sign up for an expensive broadband cellphone plan, just use your home network/school network/work network/ etc. This device is basically what Sony tried (and failed miserably) to do with the PSP. It's truly a pocket web browser. I think it's great, now if I want to check email, a movie listing, or a random fact (I do that alot) I don't have to go to my desktop or pull out my laptop and wait for it to boot up. I just pull out my pocket sized phone and tap away.
The price tag is apparently in the $500 range... that's pretty hefty.
Yeah the psp did fail.
Thats why Im selling mine :)
someone smashed a psp on the floor in my college café
still bits on the floor
The technology that went into this thing is simply amazing though I don't think it'll be falling into my hands anytime soon.
Firstly it comes in only 4GB or 8GB models and considering my 40gb iPod video almost needs to be upgraded (I have 37.4GB on it) I would have to get an 80GB iPod and the iPhone which I would have to carry around simultaneously. Ick.
Next up is the "breakthrough internet device" which is cool though it will have to be limited to either the home/hotspot area or you will have to connect to some sort of sattelite, at a fee no doubt.
Also theres the music/phone thing that makes me a bit jittery. What happens if I'm listening to music and I get a phone call? Would I have to switch to another pair of headphones? Do I hold it up to my ear like a normal phone? Do the music headphones have a mouthpeice? Will I look like a dork?
Dont forget the actual device itself. Like iPods the iPhone will be prone to scratches and look like shit in no time.
Albeit this is truly a breakthrough in technology it just isn't tempting enough to fork $500US over to Apple.
I guess that's all I have to say... =)
I really dont like Apple. Those TV commericals with the MAC computer guy and a regular PC piss me off so much, I'd love to knock the actor out in the commercial. :)

There are so many Mac commercial spoofs xD
The iPhone is a great product from what i read about it but for as much as its gonna cost better come with a stun gun or something. xD People going to be trying to steal these left and right. And i agree Apple should stick to ipods and computers...
