VP help

OMG WRONG SECTION- SORRY!

right, for the last couple of weeks i've been trying to figure out vanishing points from the little memory and experience i had with them in art class, only prob is that it was about 8 years ago, and my teacher was shit. and a little bit of basic logic.

now, i can create basic objects in a 3d space, but now im going onto more advanced things. and at first i though i was doing well, like on this one, where it all seems to make sense

but i've just created a different one from a slightly more off angle view, using the same method, and it just doesnt look right. and after adding more lines (the ones going arround the room) i see that they dont line up correctly (notice the bottom left lines coming down). do i need to add another VP because of the strange angle or something?

wow that's confusing... I think it's because your vertical lines aren't of equal length. I'd make the horizontal and vertical lines first, and then draw from the vanishing point to the corners, and then draw all the other lines. that's just me though, I'm no expert on this.

nah mate, without the vp i wouldnt where to start. im trying to make it look like the viewer is looking at a room from a certain perspective, and without the vp as a guideline it would be superhard, unless i had some artistic tallent

I see what you mean. but anyway, right now those vertical lines aren't of equal length (comparing the far left with the far right), and I'm pretty sure that's the problem. duplicate all of them from one side and drag them to the other and it should work.

Ok this probably won't help. Basically do everything off of the dot in the middle. and use vertical and horizontal lines on each of the corners for new shapes...

you done it fine on there, its just the extreme angle of it makes it look a bit off.

And make sure the lines come from the dot, not 3pixels away etc. That way it will be more accurate.

althought it doesnt look like it on there, the lines on the left are EXACTLY the same length as the ones on the right. you could measure then with a ruler, or check them with a spirit level if you like :p

hmm.. i still think its a bit dodgy. you think a second dot to the left would help? i know i'll have to make the canvas about 10000px wide, but if it helps :rolleyes:

its pretty much what i've worked out for myself already, but its still nice to hear it from a traditional artist, as its the way i'm going with this atm, with a touch of 21st centuary convinience that is :D

You only need two points if you're doing two point perspective (No shit)

Two point perspective is only really needed if you're doing an exterior view... At least, that's what it seems to me. You can use either, though, really...

I did check them with a ruler, and the one on the right is about 4 pixels taller. That's looking at the two verticals closest (most outward) in view.

oh that one, yeah that was me trying to force it to work, sorry, i should have put it back

You could always just render a wireframe box in a 3d program to get that effect ._.

yeah, but this way i get to learn something :D
besides, i think it'll be easier this way once i get into actually putting stuff into the room

Yes, and you may want to straighting up those corners a little more.

IMO it's pointless putting ALL The lines you need in, until you need them. Waste of time and effort :)

i know, but i havnt done this much so i wanted to test that it was right, and if it wasnt for the lines i wouldnt know that i needed a 2nd dot to make it right, in fact im pretty sure i need 3 now, but that aint happening coz i've only got a week to do this, and my patience has limits. anyway, in future, because i did all this i will be able to do it faster, and understand it better. the main reason i spend so much time doing these things is because im am terribly terrible at art, but i like doing it, so the next best thing i can do to art is to have structure and logic to my designs

anyway, i havnt completley finished it, but i am finished with it, the bones are there, now all i need now is the meat and skin.. which should be easier now
