Speed Paint thread

I wouldn't say it's the best view, but the highlights side looks real nice. As does the colour overall.
howver... you have 2 different brush patterns =S

the shadow is all in one direction whereas the green section isn't...

I'll sticky this if it picks up?

yep, but most people use a graphics tablet. me, I'll post random stuff eventually, though I still kinda suck.

Does anyone have any suggestions for speed painting without a tablet?

Right Ben. Advice =-

It's upto you whether you use opacity / flow / whatever.

I use opacity to blend.

If you're gonna do that have your 2 colours ready... and use X to switch between them when blending.

Start with BIG brushes.

Gradually move down to smaller ones, and smooth it out from there.

Also think about what surface you are painting... ;)

I don't have a graphic tablet but I have a laptop and no mouse, does that count?

virute, I sometimes have a go when Im bored. I tend to use shift to get my lines straight, and for curved lines, i simply use alot of straights.

Only problem is, you dont have the sensitivity of a tablet. If you get into it however, I'd recommend buying a wacom volito, you can pick em up for €40 here.

You can also use smudging for blending, or manually select the colours, but this is so easy when you get used to it. That tut took me like 2mins.. proof.

And i dont have a tablet, just use your mouse.

Oh and also remember things like

Shadows are desaturated slightly
Light is very rarely white ( EXTREME highlights )
Midtones are the most saturated
Etc :)

i obviously need to work on defining edges a lot better but I think it's a decent start for me. hopefully it's at least recognizable?

Yeah thats sweet, you could try adding one of those little metal things, saying like ben sherman or whatever.

For edges, either use eraser, or the colour you want + shift, to get straight edge.

Don't be afraid of using light either jsoosiah. Go over the top with it.
And then tone it down if needed :)

I'm not sure what it is, but I'm really drawn to this style and what you guys are creating. No pun intended. It's like Impressionist art, but with less French people.

Work into light and shadow to add more 3d look to your images.

About 25-30mins... had to dust off my tablet ommg it was disgusting
