I used to make a bunch of wallpapers and stuff but I really only make them when I want a change on my desktop. I use other forms of art though. I do graffiti, I paint, I write... Yeah.
Dude, just because you liek to varyate your art, doesnt mean EVERYONE has too, maybe they enjoy making sigs? your entitled to your own opinion, but you dotn have to tell us :P

I know, but if any of you wish to excel in any area, constant sigs will not get you anywhere. For example if you wish for some sort of future in digital media or anything, you will get nowhere. Also, sigs are supposed to be a signature, to signify your username and who you are, that's all. Not some snazzy art piece.
Also, many of you use renders in your sigs, i also see that as a form of ripping, unless you create the image, you are ripping. So i can call all of you rippers...
using a pic published by a game company isnt ripping at all. its even more publicity for the game itself, and isnt hurting the company in any way. and i didnt see anyone so far say they made the picture. its just obvious that they didnt. so u cant call all of us rippers. thats just stupid.

one using a picture for personal gain they did not create, unless it is a stock photo and permission is DIRECTLY given by the creator/owner
check and mate.
How is using something from a game not ripping? You give no credit whatsoever, no link to the site. If someone spent time creating something, you should at least respect them enough to not use it.
If I went to http://apothix.deviantart.com, took one of his peices, used it in my sig, can I say I am giving him publicity, no... exactly.

Spare me the holyer then though speecch, about the rights and wrongs of taking somebody elses work without their permission. The majority of people on this site are under 18 years old and are just entering the art world. They make sigs for a hobby not to make money off of them.
The majority of renders that they are using are game renders.The reality of it is that these sigs are a great free form of advertising for these companies and they probably could care less. Certain renders become very popular and spread like wild fire through the graphics forums getting the name of the game out. Some how I doubt that would upset the gaming companies, and it's those gaming companies that own the rights to those renders not the artist that drew them.
I guess we just don't have the high moral standards that you do Spekta. I bet you never even burned a CD or downloaded a MP3 off the net. How about downloading a movie or some porn, nah not you right. That would be stealing from an artist, and you would never do that. So spare me how righteous you think you are because you steal from artists just like the people you are accussing.

Just because, someone is under the age of 18, it doesn't mean they don't understand the concept of making their own artwork. I, for example am 14. I also, don't give a **** if the game companies care, or not. The fact is, using someone elses artwork, to make your own look better is ripping.
Why would you advertise? The company certainly didn't ask you to. Some do-good mother ****er doing it out of his or her own free will? **** that, nobody advertises for free. That is just a crappy excuse for ripping. If you want to advertise for something, do it for a friend, not a bunch of people you will never meet in your life.

I would like to see you try to get all the sig designers that use renders to stop taking renders and "ripping" them off of sites. Anyways, if we're going to stop fighting about this I am going to say, that using "renders" does look good, but it doesn't make me respect the person.. or look at the work like they created it. :\
Basically, it's useless to tell a whole community to stop using game renders, ESPECIALLY if you are new to the community. And as Madball said, I believ the sigs actually help out the game.
I make sigs for a hobby, I don't really expect any money to come my way by making sigs, so I do as I please and give credit to an artist if I think credit is due.

Its not. I think you understand that. Its more of a hobby. I do it for fun, and I enjoy it. Plus, why would companies care? 1. They are getting great advertising. 2. Its only a little thing under someones post and its not like they are selling it. To tell you the truth, many good designers that create sigs use renders, or just random pics off of google. In speckta's sig, he has a sillouhete (sp?) of a guy, and I was wondering if he took that picture himself or just got it off of google?Quote:

Lol, your a ****ing idiot. (read my last post before you take this personally) There is a difference from a free stock image, and a "stock image". There are sites (http://www.sxc.hu, http://www.deviantart,com), where people submit images solely for other people to use in their own artwork. Then, there is going on google, finding a copyrighted image, and using it.
so i guess youre on a mission going around to thousands upon thousands of communities similar to ours and stating your opinion about using copyrighted stock images in our artwork, which is surely an argument that no one gives a crap about... good job doing that... and o yea, it seems to me your whole life is based on defending the rights of copyrighted renders... dude, thats, uh, kinda pointless
