What has been done to the frontpage ?

WTF happend to the front page ? is it just me cuz here the sb is gone and all the navigation links to the left is gone ? It looks kinda rubbish now ?

Just making some updates. Things will mostly be back to the way they were very soon + some extra stuff.

I was like WTF when I saw this too.But its cool if new features are coming.and what features are coming?

I don't have a list of the specifics, but I can say that there were some features of the forum software that weren't working properly, or at all, because the skin was coded for an old version of the forum software.

Yesterday I spent most of the day recoding the skin and started from scratch with the default skin in order to make sure everything works as it should.

Some of the new, or rather now accessible, features can be seen near the top of the page in the site navigation area. One example is the drop-down search box menu and another is the quick links drop down menu.

I don't think there are any overly exciting features that will be available, but I will be making photo/image albums available for moderators soon and will extend that to the rest of the site after I have my new hosting server online.

One new feature that we'll have is a list of the last 100 most recently active threads. That will be on the front page once it's setup. I figure maybe another hour or so... I'd have it up already but got sidetracked with something else.

100 threads don't get made here that often, can the same thread appear twice?

It's not the 100 newest threads but the last 100 most recently active. So an old thread with a recent reply would get bumped up on that list. Threads would only appear once.

No thats not all true, ehm i must be honest and say i dislike the new frontpage ;s the 100 newest/active looks bad imo. I liked the old skin on frontpage way more. Other than that it doesn't seem that bad So maybe instead of making a name called forums on the list to the left The GFXvoid Navigation make a name called 100 recently active threads and make the forums on frontpage again ?

What was previously used as the homepage was the forums index, which is still at http://www.gfxvoid.com/forums/

The new root homepage is where the 100 most recently active threads are listed: http://www.gfxvoid.com/

This is something we can definitely consider. By default the forum index is at http://www.gfxvoid.com/forums/ and I'm not sure if the mod I used for the root homepage is able to push that content to http://www.gfxvoid.com/ If what you suggest is the preferred setup, though, then I will certainly look into making that happen.

The shoutbox, by the way, will be back up within a few hours. I need to head out in a few minutes and will get started on the sb as soon as I return.

Instead of recoding the old skin, why not work on getting a new skin? We have all asked for one, and since it has to be recoded, now would be a good time to do it.

The current recoding of the skin is already finished. We can definitely work on a new skin soon. The main thing I needed to accomplish with the updated coding was so newer vb features, or maybe I should call it functionality, would work properly. In addition, getting this coding issue sorted enables us to use some vb mods which wouldn't have worked before (due to non-standard coding in the previous version of this skin).

I think I would like the forum directory to be the home page as well, kinda of annoying as it is. But my bookmark is at /forum as is so. :D

I'm getting started on the shoutbox right now. I intended to do this yesterday but was entirely too tired and needed some sleep. Anyhow, getting an early start today.

One new feature that I noticed today is that there's a quick reply area directly below private messages now. After doing the skin updates yesterday I upgraded to the newest version of the forum software and that PM quick reply is a new feature just added (wasn't anything to do with the skin stuff).

Anyhow, on to the sb...

About the shoutbox... it appears that it is not compatible with the forum software version that we're now running. We'll probably be needing to switch to something different. Regardless, I'll have a sb back up sometime today - hopefully sooner rather than later.
