Well. I've said this in other threads. Before you do stuff like what I've done, waaay before, you must learn and memorise the 10 Golden Rules. Moreover, you must be able to execute the 10 golden rules with absolute perfection. So concentrate on those. they may be a bit boring but every typographer keeps them in mind even when they're throwing them to the four winds.
Other than that just buy books such as 'The 10 commandments of Typography' 'The Barnbrook Bible' 'Stop Stealing Sheep' 'The Art of Looking sideways'. All of these things will inform your later rulebreaking :) -

People just like to add pezzazz but adding text effects to bad typography still makes it typography and vice versa, the effects are really a non-entity (which is why I always say they're unecessary).Quote:
