a friend i gotta help

hi yall
k so... i found out yesterday that my 17yo friend has CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia), a type of cancer that infects the white blood cells from bone marrow. he's gotten it an an extremely abnormally young age, most patients diagnosed with CLL are over 60, which means his chance of completely beating this is very high, but until he can have real testing we wont know the actual numbers.

he lives in foster care, so he doesnt have health insurance, and he cant be treated without it. he means a whole lot to me, he's the sweetest guy out there (no offense to all you dudes on this site), but a lot of hard things seem to try and stop him from getting to the happy life he deserves.

he's got big dreams, he wants to become a professional photographer. i've been teaching him a bit of photo editing (levels and stuff, nothing fancy) and he's beginning to catch on. he travels around the country due to his foster-care (he's constantly switching homes...) so he's got photographs from every place imaginable. they're all really beautiful, and he's been working really hard to get a career for himself before he has to leave the foster care system, because once he's out he's got nothing.

what i need from you guys is some help creating a website. my friend plans on doing a sponsored walk from Tell City, Indiana to Atlanta, Georgia. his whole idea is that he'll take photos along his way and sell them, but right now i need some help with just the design and everything. it doesnt have to be something amazing or special, it just needs to look professional. if you dont want to do it, then maybe you could just give me some pointers on how to create a website, cause i'm literally clueless.

some help would mean the world to me and my friend, and its just one way to help us fight his sickness. sorry this is such a long post, but he really means a lot to me, so i gotta give as much information as i can.

you don't need more than notepad to write HTML code. other stuff might help, but they aren't required. I guess you probably want an FTP client too if the server is remote but that comes later.

anyway, after tomorrow night i'll be relatively free so maybe we can discuss some details on this.

anywho, thanks everyone for being so cooperative and shtuffs... i sound like i was just awarded something stupid... (i'd like to thank my mom and god... ok jk)

anyways comments are still appreciated, anything regarding the site or my friend, he goes by Cody. i really want this site to spread around, just kindof get the word out. CLL is one of many diseases that is yet to have a cure. even if you cant donate money or time or anything, just reading this helps, just a little more awareness helps, and maybe you'll show this to a friend, and that friend might have a friend who knows this guy who's got a lot of money to spend. maybe that guy will fund something amazing that will lead to the cure... who knows? just gotta stay positive about these things.

also... thanks for putting up with my ridiculously long posts and lack-of-knowledge about websites and shtuffs

The setup I use is, in my opinion at least, very nice and really easy to manage.
I've installed Wordpress blogging software (it's free) on my host (www.wordpress.org).
In the blog I added my own layout. It's simply html coded, which you can edit in the editor in the blogs Admin CP.
After that I installed an extra mod for Wordpress which links the blog to my Picasa.
You can use this mod to create a page with a full galery of all your Picasa images for example.
Now I simply upload my photos to Picasa and hit an update button on the blog.
You can also add the Picasa images to blog posts, so you can post newest images and such.

for building a website you should have a mac with iWeb. that is a WYSIWYG program and easy to use.. but i reckon not many peopzz have a mac. hopefully you found something to work with by now. i am reading this only now.

the problem with iweb (yes i have it) is that i still have to buy a URL and neither cody nor i have enough money to pay for a URL (well i just cant get the money to buy one, and he has no money)

Wow, a brilliant drive, I read on the website created by your friend, he wanted video editing software? I think for basic video editing Adobe Primiere Pro is a really good one. can do video editing, i edited couple of movies i shot. If you can just upload your videos i can edit them :)

Adobe AE (after effects) is tha best! premiere is only for putting it together but with AE you can really edit it and add effects (weird huh when the title is after EFFECTS xD)

i used after effects a few times! but it's pretty hard!
