Light Over Animation Tutorial

ok this is my first tut so bare with me poeple :D

ok first step is to make you sig and everything
and make sure your text or whateva u want this effect to go on is a rastrized layer not just a text layer

use the settings shown

Now make a new layer(ctr + shft + n)

and make a small gradient like so

and then u should have this

then when you have that hit ctr + g and switch the blending mode to lighten
then move the layer ova the text so u can see the light ova the text like so
(i made mine red so u can see it)

now switch to image ready there should be a little button at the bottom of the tool bar as shown below

now duplicate the layer in the animation window
select the first frame and drag the layer with ur gradient to the left so u cant see it
then select the second and drag the layer with the gradient to the right so u cant see it
and reselect the 1st frame

then click the tween button

(15-20 frames works good doesnt have to be 20)

hit enter and bam your effect is complete.....

Whats a rastrized layer?

well when u use this u shouldnt keep the text on a text layer.... just make a new layer (ctr + sht + N) then put the new layer under the text layer and merge it (ctr + E)

I'm having the same problem

You right click the image

Then go to the bottom of the list and click preview in --> internet explorer

Then save it from there as a .gif

Save Optimized As, select gif on the side - much more efficient way than viewing in Internet Explorer.

How do you make the light stronger?

-right now ever time I do this I barely see it.

If you view it in internet explorer then it doesn't slow down.

did u set the layer wit tha gradient on it to Lighten on the blending mode (right next to the opticiy option on the layer window)

Now, it really helps if you could show a screenshot of which tollbar and which button. Kind of driving me crazy here trying to figure out...

The tween is not working. I free transform (I'm assuming that's what you mean by move) my gradient layer in my first frame so I can't see it on the left. Then I switch to the second frame, and move it to the right. Then I tween, but the animation isn't showing up.

I notice that when I switch between the frames, the placement of the gradient layer is always where I left it last. It isn't changing between the frames. Any ideas?

I hope someone can help me with this because this tutorial is one of the best ones I have seen.

First off ImageReady does not have the gradient tool, thats only in photoshop.
What tool do I use to drag the layer over the Letters?

I am able to do everything else but this is the only section that I dont understand.

Use photoshop to make a new layer and put a grad in it. Then after you've made your grad layer, jump to image ready. The grad layer will be present and editable in image ready. If you can teach me how to do the motion, I can teach you the grad. I can't the tween to work.

I've been using Cntrl+t (Free transform) to move it. However, I don't know if that's right because the animation isn't showing up.

Anyone got any other ideas?

if the tween aint workin u should make sure the 1st frame is selected when u tween just a thought if ur still havin trouble

I must have done this 100 times in the past 2 day :blink:
The area I am having problems is where u drag the gradient to the right so u cant see it. ( FreeTransform is how I drag the layer over the Text )

I drag the layer to the left then to the right. I then Tween about 10 frams
and all i see is the letter blinking.



This is the only problem area

i think most of you are having problems with the gradient...once in imageready simply take the move tool and set where you want the gradient to start then duplicate it then MOVE it to where you want it to go then tween...you dont transform it you're actually move the layer that the gradient it on...use the arrow tool...the top right icon...i dont have imageready right now otherwise i'd take a picture hope this helps

sonic...you save it from imageready...go to file -> save optimized as...then save it as a gif

only lettin me save as .html or .jpg :huh:

i think its pretty cool the effect is just a lil slow what u put for the frame delay? bcuz it looks like u used 0.2 which makes it look really slow and doesnt look as well

yo this tut was nice..in my opinion it could be a little more detailed...but for the most part i liked it....heres one of my results....
