Simple Earth Tutorial

step 1: create a new document any size but i used 500x500 pixles.

step 2: create a new layer.

step 3: use the eliptical marquee tool to make a circle in the middle of the window (make sure you use the shift key to make it a perfect circle).

step 4: fill the circle with pure black.

step 5: go to filter>render>difference coulds and apply that a total of 3 times.

step 6: go to image>adjust>levels and use the stettings 0. 164. and 189.

step 7: go to filter>distort>spherize and apply +100% and then +50%.

step 8: go to image>adjust>color balance and use these settings. shadows -100 +100 -62. midtones -30 +9 +100 and highlights -31 +2 and +56.

step 9: press ctrl d to deselect.

step 10: select the background layer and fill it with black.

step 11: on the background layer and to go filter>noise>add noise and use these settings. 13.61 gaussian and monochromatic.

I think that when you create a planet, you should make it as realistic as possible. When you get over 50 posts, be sure to check out my planet tutorial in Members only section. You could also check out some other planet tutorials. There is a simple one at http://www.artofgregmartin.com.
If you kept working on a planet made from this tutorial, you could probably get a nice result, if you do it properly. You need to add shadows and lights to make it look more realistic. I really hope you continue experiment with space scenes since I seem to the only one who is addicted to it. ;)

I tried to ad a motion blur to it and it didnt really work sorry lol. I could ad on a sun and a light sorce to it. Would that be good? (by the way thx for the feed back you guys).

I changed it up a bit because the earth didnt look realistic enough for me so I made something that looked like mars. I noticed an error I made by the text but dont feel like changing it. :)

Well acctually i didnt give it pictures at first i just added them yesterday or so and the reason you never saw a contanent like that before is becuase its "new" earth not "earth" as in a new one lol.

I tried using brushes to add shading, and this is what I got:

It doesnt really look like earth at all. If you look at earth from space, you see no green. Just a dark blue and some white clouds around it.

Ok i got the images back sorry about that and for some reason the quality isnt as good but if you make it in photoshop for instance it will look a lot better.

this is a good tut, but i doubt I'll ever use it for anything.

Ok, remember, its called "NEW" earth not "current" earth so its going to look different lol.

Actually, on step five when you fill the shape with clouds, you mess up the whole creation. A good planet cannot be created using only filters. Maybe I could write a small planet tutorial for those who cannot access Members only section..

I know that it does but i tryed to make this tutoiral very simple so just about everybody could do it. How ever i know (kinda) how to make real good looking planets from other tutorials just so you know.

it is exactly what the title said it was folks, title says. SIMPLE earth tutorial. meaning quick and easy and anyone can do it.
it's good for anyone who just wants to learn the basics and a great starting point for anyone who loves the space scenes.

Sorry, unless you have a 3D program like 3Ds max or milkshape or somting like that, you can make the earth spin. The only way you could spin it is clockwise or counter clockwise. But thats just if you are trying to do it with photoshop. If you want to know how to in a 3D program i can help you.
