Day Of Silence

its a really great thing, and depending on whether my school lets me participate i'm going to try my best to join in on the day of silence. Yall should join in too ^.^

Never heard of this, but when is it? The video said April 25th, but comments are saying it's April 15th. Also, this is 3 years old?

It's april 15th usually. make sure you talk to your teachers to make sure they're okay with you not participating during class that day. also think about bringing a white board to school.

I was going to say It's the Easter holidays, but then remembered you live in the US. Do you not have Easter holidays?

its actually just for awareness. its simulating the silence many people must deal with simply because of their sexual orientation. As great as everything seems these days, there are still kids being bullied, threatened, tortured (emotionally and physically) and even killed because of their sexual orientation and the social stress that society puts on them.
by being silent you not only bring awareness to this issue, but you get a taste of what it would be like to be in a situation worse than yours. and according to my (gay) french teacher (who i absolutely love xD) "You also get to take a step back, and let people who may not normally get to speak have their voice heard, with a silent army behind them."

I really like the idea. I might do it. I'd just type a message on my phone with the Larry King link, and be like, "..." I think it's a good idea for those who are too shy to have their voice heard.

Anything sounds like a good cause when you couch it in victimized rhetoric. :/

What's next? The day of silence for people who like little kids but can't talk about it? The day of silence for people with strange fetishes but are too embarrassed to talk about it?

They keep holding all these rallies and parades and protests, and then saying that what they do in the privacy of their own home is nobody's business. It is nobody's business as long as it's private, so why do you keep making it public? Their actions make no sense and completely contradict their words. I don't see people holding parades to say their straight, or to say they like to paint their nails, or to say they prefer breakfast to dinner. I don't know why they need all this hoopla to say they're gay. Who cares? The only person who can make it into a big deal first is YOU. Keep your private life...private O.o

It's not a bad thing, but I just think you make protests meaningless when you protest silly things like this. Then, when a really important cause finally comes along, people are so tired of these events that no one pays attention to it. >.<

And people get bullied for so many reasons, so that seems like a terrible excuse for making a big deal out of this. The media jumps on any "gay" bullying because it's a hot topic right now. But where are our days of silence for fat people who are bullied? People with speech impediments? People with acne? People with holes in their clothes? Girls who date the wrong guy? Kids with glasses that are too large? Boys who wear eyeliner? Members of the school band? Do they not mean as much as kids who get bullied because they decide to tell everyone they're gay?

if you think those kids need to be stood up for then do it. I have seen enough homophobia and hate in my own life that i feel that this is a good cause. You don't have to participate, all you have to do is accept that other people will speak, or not speak, when they feel it's appropriate. People can stand up for what they feel needs representation and I have chosen bagltq (aka LGBTQA) issues.

Sounds pretttty stupid. Go wave a sign if you want someone to notice, odds are the fagot is going to be the quiet guy anyways.
